There is a big difference between giving birth to a new baby and nurturing it with a ton of love and care. This can never be the same as adoption or fostering especially when the children are in their teens or older. The same philosophy applies to adopting, renaming and funding existing engineering colleges Please create Brand new IITs like Guahati which you did as HRD Minister. If each costs Rs 10, 000 crores or more so be it. Let us create atleast two new IITs each year if possible and have three joint venture partners each. GOI + State Govt + a Sponsor Nation ( USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, UAE ). None of these countries will hesitate to pump in US $ 2 Billion each to create State of the Art Institutions. like IITs Even Japan and Korea might consider the proposition Let India get creative and Proactive.. We have behaved like slaves too long His Masters Voice has long gone It is now Sony, EMI and a new world of iPods.

After Independence all Work by Govt of India has proved to be futile except the IITs and IIMs. Then why the Govt wants to ruin them also? Please let the IITs grow and be Brand Ambassadors of India.

Let Research in IITs be one of the Best in the World so that people dont have to go out of India for PhD and Research. Research should come at such a level that it should not need Govt Funding and Industries should fund it.

The Salary of the Faculty Members should be increased so as to retain their talent in India. Its really bad that a Professor at IIT after so many Year of hard work gets much less than what he deserves. Money should be diverted for modernising the exsisting Institutes rather than creating new Institutes and diluting them

I strongly favour to the concept of HITs and building healthy competetion between IITs and HITs and bringing up one more brand name(HITs) from INDIA, instead of renaming some of the exisisting colleges as IITs which will not make them equivalent to IITs either in standards or in culture
