No More IITs Petition - Comments 2700-3000

2706.Shravan Agrawal,IIT KGP '84-USA
Govt shoud not christien existing institution as IIT.Open new IITs spread accross the nation (not one per state).Increase intake of existing IITs.

2709.Gaurav D. Upneja-India
Stop making quantities, build qualities.....

2712.Lalit Kumar Bansal-India
First make the college to up their standard to the level of IIT.After that only awarding a status should be considered.

2713.Suchismita-India
Please dont dilute the IIT brand, creating more of IITs would lower the standards of teaching and students

2719.T.Sri rama krishna-india
i am iitan so i feel it has to be preserved

2721.Kunal Sharma-India
Please, preserve the IIT brand name, and if possible leave IITs alone and come with other options that do not evoke routine hue and cry year after year

2722.Praveen Jha-USA
These guys are bent on doing whatever they can to destroy the nation. It seems they are under some kind of spell in which they can do nothing good. They are taking deliberate steps to harm India in any way they can making sure the people remain ignorant, uneducated and deprived. The same people bring them to power. Though I do not have much hope that these subtle acts like online petitions can break this vicious circle against such evil, let's not lose heart and keep trying.

2734.nikhil kumar singh-INDIA-IIT MADRAS, m.tech
we have to pay attention on quality not on quantity

2737.Manoj Kumar Rawat-India
The IITs will lose their numero uno position and the respect the IITians command if more IITs are created.

2742.Priyank Sharma-India
Fully support this argument. Name the other colleges differently. Do not get into brand-dilution.

2743.Narendra Prakash Singh-India
Please stop this Rat Race

2747.Praveen Tewari-USA
IIT's are renowned for their uniqueness and accomplishments of the alumni. Let us refrain from diluting the name of IIT's by adding more and more institutes to the fold.

2749.Mohinder L. Nayyar-USA
I belive that the objective of the GOI is to provide sufficient funds for the proposed colleges by branding them IIT. It is wrong to change the name without changing the basic culture of the college. It will lower the prestige of IITs abroad and at home. Do not do it for political purposes, if any. Preserve the status.

2750.Arun kumar sharma-India
Its the brand name which should not be mixed with others.

2753.Udhaya Shankar-India
Please don't undermine the status of one of India's unique prides

2758.C.S.Satish Babu-INDIA
please don't spoil the Brand Name

2760.Arun Khan-INDIA
Need to keep and improve the quality of the IITs comparable to the top level Engineering Universities/Institutions in the US and Europe. This can be achieved only by keeping the standards high. More IITs will simply dilute the quality of the output.

2762.Raghuveer-India
If any more IIT's then I strongly suggest setting up new ones like Guwhati.

2764.Aseem Vaid-USA
dont dilute the IIT Brand and reputation, it is equally harmful for the nation as well as for students. Take the example of premier institutions worldwide and see for yourselves.

2788.Sarang Tatimatla-India
Tell me one thing...why do you think the IIT's are THE IIT's? Is it because of the teaching standards? Is it because of the facilities? Is it because of the students? Just introspect on these questions and you will go with the last one. The other factors do play a part, but it is the students that make an IIT. We must agree that our seniors played a very important role in our development as overall individuals. (c'mon, we were absolute duds when we stepped into the IIT's). Now by converting a little known college (never heard of many of the listed colleges before) into an IIT, the whole IIT tradition is under serious threat. (Roorkee was on par with the IIT's at that time, so the statement "...Roorkee, hence XYZ..." does not hold)

Just imagine...ppl who clear JEE will go into these colleges and find seniors who are absolute imbeciles...I mean most of the newcomers would not be able to relate to them...there is a hell of an intellectual difference among the juniors and the seniors...principle of mental induction holds true...and bam...we've lost a future Leader (either Technological or Managerial).Just a viewpoint...I sincerely feel that the breeding grounds play an important part in the making of an IIT...if at all an IIT is to be made...make it from scratch...or evacuate a certain campus for a few years before making it an IIT or even better....let the IIT's remain as the elites...and nurture talent in the NIT's.

2794.Prashant-India
Establish brand new IITs rather than converting old ones.
Attract best of the faculty from around the work.
Encourage commercial R&D.

2800.vineet dubey-india
the idea of healthy competition is interesting.it should be tried and merged later if need be.

2803.Vikas Shenoy-India
Please preserve the identity of the IITs... do not dilute the brand value.... No more IITs please

2813.Vishwanath-India
Please... no more IITs... Let the value of IITs be everlasting and outstanding the way it remains in quality

2815.shiva kumar ramini-INDIA
I am strongly agreeing with the petition

2819.SuryaPrakash-India
Let's build another brand (in the academic world)

2823.Sumitava Biswas-India
Being from IIT-R 2004 passout batch, I strongly feel that the pride of India should not be diluted.

For the betterment of society, colleges other than IIT should be funded and managed with greater control. And who knows, we may get one more brand of colleges from them which we can be proud of other than IIT.

2826.Mukesh Kumar-USA
I support this petition. Brands take years to build and should not be allowed to be simply copied.

2827.Atul Srivastava-USA
Instead of opening IITs in each and every "gulli", invest more in current IITs to upgrade their infrastructure and labs etc.

2828.Pawan Tyagi-USA
Before renaming institue pl. put a check on quality of reserach and teaching output for some years then pl. consider them to provide status equivalant to IITs. Let other institute evolve themselves (with proper funding and encouragement) to world class institute. Naming them to IITs may not help in improving their situation in actual.

2831.Siddharth Sanyal-Australia
It is empathized to IITians as well as others that IITs are the provenance of Technology and Management leaders in India. We need leaders today to serve the country and the world. Understanding that there is positive population and economic growth in India, let there be new freshly created IITs instead of being burdened by the responsibility of cleaning the crap of other institutions, which sadly have rotten to a point of irreversibility.

2834.Anurag Jaiswal-USA
It took years for IITs to become IITs and preserving the IIT Brand is not only in interest of alumni of IIT but also in interest of govt. of India to encourage healthy competition and leverage IIT brand abroad to retain and improve IT image. I am sure Chinies politicians must be brain storming to create such a brand value where as we are planning to dilute the same.

2837.Rohit Kumar-India
Making lots of IITs is like killing its own brand value. IIT has a name becoz of the creame-de-layer. Let it be a layer. Not the whole milk. or no body will recognize it then.

2839.Rohit Kumar-India
Making lots of IITs is like killing its own brand value. IIT has a name becoz of the creame-de-layer. Let it be a layer. Not the whole milk. or no body will recognize it then.

2852.rahul tripathi-INDIA
THIS CONCEPT OF INCREASING THE NO. OF IITS IS IDIOTIC AND SHALL TARNISH THE EXISTING GREAT LEGACY OF THE IITS

2858.Jaspreet Narang (B.Tech EE IIT KGP 2005)-United Kingdom
There are only 1 Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, MIT etc.

2864.Jeyaseelan-India
The name change will definitely rot the IITs in due course of time

2865.Satish Bhalerao-USA
Start new ones. Don't convert. Add.

2866.Jisha Abubaker-USA
A concerned citizen clearly against any IIT brand dilution schemes

2871.Tirthajyoti Sarkar-USA-University of Illinois at Chicago
I agree with the potential dissolution of the strength of the brand name. More research oriented education structure in these new centres of excellence would automatically give them the recognition and repute.

2872.Aparoop Chakraborty-India-IIT KGP Batch 2002
There are very many examples of Brand Dilution. Let not the Govt make the grave mistake

2880.Ajit Shenoy,IIT Madras,1979, Electronics-USA
The IITs were built painstakingly over many years and their reputation is based on capturing India's best and brightest via the JEE. Simply renaming an existing (and lesser) institution an "IIT" does a disservice to the efforts of legions of IIT students who toiled mightily to get there and the highly dedicated faculty who taught them.

I would strongly suggest selecting some other name such as "University of XYX", where XYZ is the state name, or "India University, YYZ Campus"

What was wrong with the name "Regional Engineering College" to begin with? These already had a national identity, in that they were all named "REC, XYZ", where XYZ was the city, and they were recognized as the next best alternative college system after the IITs. Keep it that way.

2882.Kamlesh Sinha-USA
I think this is very important. As this will undervalue the Brand image of RECs as well. If there would be so many IITs then RECs wont stand a chance.

2883.Niraj Jha-USA
I sign the petition cause I agree the IIT Brand name will be diluted.. However I feel what the GOI is doing is not wrong. Today Indian competition is nothing but taking its toll on Students. Students are selected based not on Merit but on sheer hard work ut thru years and years of hardwork. I have known of friends who have sent 2-3 years just to be in one of the IITs. They have both failed and succedded.

The failed ones have later succeeded much more than most IITians in life but repent wasting 2-3 years on the same course of +2 level. Those who have succeeded are also similarly repenting on the years lost. With the coming of many IITs more and more people will get a chance to be there at the first place. And the bright students wont have to spend life on a 2 year course for upto 5 years or so..

Well there is one MIT, one Cambridge, one Oxford and similarly there is one IITK, one IITKGP, one IITB, one IITM. Why dont you work for the brand rather expect the brand to work for you. When IITs opened in 1970s, there was just one of it. Had they said we do not want other IIT most of you would not have been signing this petition. It took one visionary to make 5 IITs and another visionary to add 7 to it. Do you have any idea as to how many took the JEEs in 1970s and how many take it now.

So its not only required to open more IITs its just on the students. Ask XLRI what it takes to stand out of the crowd. Opening more IITs will also help many deserving poor students who cannot afford costly tutions and courses but are naturally bright, yet cant afford private intitutes.

2884.Kalpesh V. Upadhye-USA-IIT Bombay, Class of 2002
Most importantly, IIT faculty are PhDs unlike other colleges

2886.AMLAN GHOSH-India
Please choose any super technical name for other engg. college

2893.Vineet Rajput-US
First the teacher pool needs to be strengthened. If there is already a shortage of qualified professors at existing IITs, why dilute the pool further

2895.Arun Jain-India
I completly agrees with the Petition to Preserve the IIT Brand and would like to add that when govt. is not able to support the existing IITs, their should not rise the question of more IITs. First GoI have to look into the conditions of exisiting IITs and explore their full potential, which in my opinion has been explored upto 25\% till date, as IITs can produce more Scientist and Engineers of world class as compared to what we have today from our country.

2898.Prachi Singhal-India
I sincerely agree with this petition to save IITs from deterioration of its image. But most people think its not completely right and we should work for the brand rather expect the brand to work for you. Then why follow the brand name?

If its only a question for giving chance to equally bright children then why go for name "IIT"? Its rightly said in the petition that choose a new name for these institutes. Who knows in future they might develop as a higher brand than IIT. And similarly, the reverse can also happen. So better don't use the brand IIT and put its reputation at stake

2904.ramjeet meena-india
this is not write that it........... the image of iits will b spoiled

2908. Radhakrishnan J-India
Whats in a name ? Well the name has a brand value that is a result of how the IITs take students and how they function. And replicating that in other institutions would most certainly take time. So in the short term, there would definitely be a brand dilution. Instead, let there be another brand. Renaming doesn't change GoI's objectives or affect how it plans to achieve 'em. Besides, having one more brand would fuel a healthy competition.

2912.amit kumar singh-india
IITs representes india let them do so for a long period them increasing there numbers will result in the dilution of there reputation.

2919.Sourabh-India
Making so many IITs doesn't serve the purpose either way. If we want to provide quality engineering education to more indians, we can build good institutions with some other name, which operate along the lines of IIT. It is not necessary that all good engineering colleges in India shuld be called IITs

Once the world gets to know that there are 14 IITs in the country, educating 5000 or more engineers, they will n longer respect the IIT name.

2924.Krishna Kumar Rao Mocherla-USA
Please do not let political gimmickry endanger the fine reputation of IITs and dilute the standards that have been maintained so far. The Indian diaspora worldwide has established a great reputation only because of the excellence of the current IITs. This is in danger of being lost with the lowering of standards.

2925.S S Saravanan-M Sc IITM, 2004-India
I fully support the views expressed in the petition. Just changing the name board of a college is not going to help in any useful way. This move will do justice neither to the colleges concerned nor to the IITs. I humbly request the PM and his cabinet to drop the idea.

2928.Vijia Kumar Karra-USA-IIT KGP 1967
Please don't Commoditize the Brand that Created a Great Image to the Indian Technology Sector

2936.Shatajit Basu-India
I completely agree with the contents of the petition. Every country needs to have eletist institutes and IITs need to be given the same status

2945.Sayantan Lahiri-India
Please dont make it another "stone laying" farce!

2949.vangala praveen kumar-india
You could even bring REC`s into picture

2952.Abhishek Nadamani-USA
Utterly ridiculous. It creates a two - tier IITs. So not serving the purpose

2963.Sasi Kumar-India
If those institutes are really at par with IITs why do they require an IIT mask. instead of giving IIT status, Indian Govt. should encourage them to emerge themselves as a new brand just like BITS Pilani and PSG College etc..

2965.ved prakash lal-india
I fully endorse the message about saving iits' brand name

2977.Hema Chandra Prakash-India
I strongly Agree

2979.Sanjay Jagtap-Singapore
the existing IITs should increase capacity, rather than converting other colleges

2983.Raghav Mittal-India-IIT KGP - Class of 2004.
The Indian politicians are anathemic to anything exemplary. For them the promotion of mediocracy is a safe bet to remain in power. The killing of the IIT Brand is just the beginning. Let's see what all happens in this country if the enlightened one's don't come together to take on the reigns of the nation. Where are the democratic principles applied in this decision ? I wonder that our "great" political leaders don't even understand the basics of marketing. Just by giving a name will empower an institution, looks funny.

Let the entire IIT Fraternity start a non-cooperation movement with the Government of India to strongly protest against this foolish move. Let's send our IIT degrees back to the Hon'ble HRD Minister with our letter of protest. Let all IIT Foundations hold all the financial support to the IITs. Let the entire IIT fraternity rise up in unison and make a plea to the Hon'ble Supreme Court requesting to safeguard the fundamental duty of "To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement. ". The dilution of the IIT brand would demean the excellence of these institutions. Let all IIT groups make it very clear and explicit that they won't let the other members into their fold.

2987.R. Sthanunathan-India
Let us create multiple brands with their own value instead of just sticking with and diluting one brand

2988.ashish gupta-India
When I graduated IIT JEE took 3000 candidates Now it is more than 5000. It is doubling every 3 yrs. Please keep the brand value... Otherwise India will loose their BRAND IIT

2996.Ratul Chatterjee-India
I agree totally with this petition. I would urge the government to enhance the level of the IITs. Also to upgrade the level of technical education at the other Indian institutes concrete plan can be formulated so that the IITs can share their knowledge with the other institutes

2998.sunil-india-no for diluting iit brand name

2999.Mohan Kumar S.-India
IIT Brand is premium and should be preserved as a symbol
