No More IITs Petition - Comments 3000-3200

3005.Aman Mohunta-India
PLease do not use IIT Brand Name for political reasons

3006.MOHIT KUMAR BANERJEE-Singapore
It has taken the students and faculty a lot of efforts to build brand IIT as the premier brand from India - lets not dilute its value due to sheer political considerations

3010.avsilesh-india
iit potential gets lowered. iit brand gets diluted

3018.Mandeep Singh Bhatia-Singapore
I totally agree with the fact that this will dilute the quality of engineers graduating from IIT.

3027.P. M. Vedamanikam-USA-B. Tech 1969 - IIT Madras
I fully endorse the petition

3028.suryajith-INDIA
this results in the loss of competition among the students and thereby reduces the charm of the institutes

3033.Srikumar K. S.-India
Rebranding existing institutions as IITs is not going to affect the quality of education at those places. The student and faculty culture built over decades at the original IITs are not what will be carried over to these other schools. The Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) , the Tata Instutite of Fundamental Research (Bombay) and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (MatScience, Chennai) are examples of stellar institutions that did not need to use the IIT brand name and have built their own by purely going for excellence, in the same spirit as the IITs.

There is no need for another brand like "HIT" as suggested in this petition. Let there be 20 institutions in India all known for excellence by their own names for their own reasons. The only way to nurture excellence is by insisting on excellence. Just as naming someone Purushottam isn't going to make him the most noble of men. It only contributes to ignoring the meaning of the name

3035.Unnati Gupta- IIT Kanpur,INDIA
i sincerely agree with the petition

3041.R Manu-India
Let there be no more IITs.Develop many more institutes to IIT or International standards. I do not agree to the suggestion of HITs. Let the institutes retain their identities.

3043.apksinha-IIT, Kgp, India
It takes Decades to build the NAME but only minutes of Negligence to lose. ETERNAL VIGILENCE IS THE PRICE OF LIBERTY.

3046.Arindam Basu-India
While I do agree that excessive amount of Brand Extension (without commensurate monitoring of quality) can resort to dilution of the parent brand; one cannot ignore the demands for significantly increasing the number of seats at the existing IITs.

India need to produce atleast 15000 and not 3000 IIT engineers every year, to make a difference to the world.

3047.Shantanu Kumar-India
I strongly agree with this plea. Preserve the brand "IIT".Don,t destroy it

3059.PSP SARMA, [retd army brigadier]-india
enable competetive new brands, who knows they cd do better, !

3064.Kalyan Panda-India
New IITs ok but try to start new name new institute

3074.MSAMSHIVA-India
Dear Sir,Please don,t let the brand image of IITs dilute, the new institute canbe named as HIT or JIT(Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Technology, which in course of time would become a brand name itself.

3075.Anurag Dwivedi-India-Student,IIT Kharagpur
An IIT should only be built up totally new - Kindly designate the 7 new colleges as NIT's which also is a good brand.2 more IIT's are goin to come up in close vicinity of IIT Kharagpur itself, I can already forsee a downfall of the brand IIT in this region.

3078.Avyay-india
sir these new intitutes should be given an open ground to play and work not something which is already built ..iits got here from ground level so should these new institutes ..then only they can be really called new temples of education

3079.Suresh Adina-India
Entry to IIT should be earned and not disbursed. If the current entry system into IITs is flawed, let the existing institutions come togther and fix it. Let the existing IITs maintain their uniqueness and the level of education they currently have. If each state has an IIT, which is likely to happen in future, their standard will slowly but steadily go down over the years, which would be a real shame. Let IITs not become another public sector undertaking like the many we have in India that have done very little for the nation's improvement overall. Autonomy is what gives them the drive to reach new heights and the courage to try out new ideas. Give us a chance to remain proud as IIT alumni and not become just another one of those IITians.

3080.Bishwadeep Mukherjee-India
Let's not tamper with the reputation of IITs

3086.Abhishek Singh-India
I think this is a serious issue and government should take a bold step toward it.
3089.Asutosh Pathak-United States
Brand identity is crucial to the focus of IITs Quality would be hard to replicate It takes years to build that reputation not only a name

3091.Sundeep Peechu-USA
This is a silly gimmick to expand the IIT brand. Why dont we club all the local mgmt colleges into IIMs as well? Ditto for medical colleges.

3092.Suramya Rajwade-Singapore
Look at ur goals. IIT is not the only way to achieve that, create brand India, and not by destroing brand IIT. Its simple think and understand. Make many other brands related or originated from INDIA. Learn from IIT and GOAL is Achieved.

3097.Biswanath Dutta-India
Support the petition whole heartedly. The GOI move will be a very big mistake and only serve to dilute the image. Just giving the Rolls Royce name to every car will not help. Neither is it practical to think that all can be brought to the same standard or will have the same quality output. In a few years the IIT name will be worth nothing.

3098.sujata singh-india
i am in support of this mission.iit brand should be preserve.and the suggesion given in plea is also appriciable

3099.I. Selvaraj-India
Support the petition. Setting up new Engineering Colleges, under a different brand (with competing philosophies) will benefit the nation.

3102.khimendra singh- I.I.T.MADRAS-india
IIT brands must be preserved.

3104.Anupam Vivek-India
good suggestion, but I am afraid...Indian government is not so patient.

3106.colossom-Canada
This political move will not only dilute but tarnish the only brand image which India hold today. After all world do not want trash coming from every third or fourth poor infrastructure college. I bet India will loose this five decade of hard earned "JEWEL" down the lane.

3109.Kiran Kumar Pippalapalli - B.Tech,IIT KGP, 2002.India
Get rid of the word "Brand" from the petition. I would rather use "Plea to preserve the IIT heritage and build complementary educational institutions to serve India"

3116.Shyamprasad-India
wonderful suggestion

3125.Raj Narayan Marndi-India
Don't dilute the brand of IIT by adding some more non-IITs into this list. The idea of HIT is really good one, and it should be implemented.

3126.Sandeep Bharti,MCA IITR-India
No new IITs please

3128.manish jain-india
please dont do that

3135.Praveendra Singh-CYPRUS
NO to more attachments to IITs, it will dilute the brand IIT which Indians are proud of.Why don't go and create new brands like IIITs, NITs, BITs etc...
There is only one MIT, Harward, Princeton

3137.Prateek-Japan
Changing name of an institute will not improve quality of education. Why not give funding and other support under the existing name? Once these institutes are at par with IITs. they can be renamed.

3138.Fred Rodrigues-Australia
Don't fix something that does not need fixing

3139.Saurabh Agnihotri-UK
I completely agree

3140.Ganesh Kumar K-India
Kindly preserve the world reputed IIT brand.Do not dilute the JEE entrance (toughest) exam.

3142.Hemant Sonawane-India
If GOI sincerely desires to enable more students to take advantage of the IIT curriculum, it must build fresh, new institutes (from scratch), instead of falling back on shortcuts, thru half-hearted measures like renaming existing institutes to IIT. This entire naming-renaming (of airports, streets, and colleges) business is hogwash and a colossal waste of national time & resources.

If GOI is serious about technical education, it must take the initiative to build new institutes, modelled along the lines of existing IITs. There is always an easy path, and a right path. One needs to see if they have the courage to choose the right path.

3144.amit sinha-India
plz do not kill tis golden goose

3148.Shikher Bisaria-USA
Please do not convert RECs to IITs

3149.Anu-USA
I don't know why Government is thinking that giving the brand name of IIT's to other Institutions will help? IITs have come up to this name and fame after struggling a lot. Let the other institutions struggle and acquire their fames in differnt brand names. Giving the brand of IIT to other institutions will not serve the purpose rather it will deteriorate the name and fame of all existing IITS rapidly. Government must think about the exsiting infrastructures sensibly.

3153.Ankit Malhotra-India
they should be renamed but not to IIT's these colleges should be renamed to some other name and grant given. it would be misleading to name them as IIT's

3164.Amit Gautam-India
14 IITs!!! Will go a long way as the perfect example of Brand dilution. The term IITian wont carry any value...one will need to specify whether one is from say IIT Kanpur or some IIT Osmania.

3166.Manikanth Mohan-India
It is essential that the brand value of the IITs are not played around with. The effort should be to raise the existing NITs (or as the petition says convert them to HITs) to better levels than just renaming them, causing irreparable damage to the brand value of the IITs.

3173.soham ganguly-india
do not dilute thebrand name

3175.Amit Jain-India
No more IIT please if you want to keep it premium
else it will beome like any other school on the street

3176.Arun Kumar Giri-USA
Let's create some other brand names to make ourselves prod. Why spoil one we have
created.

3178.Sadanand Deshpande-USA
Please keep the seven IITs as they are

3179.Shireesh Agrawal-India
I request that the decision be made by people who have been a part of IITs. Let this not be a case of short term planning and show of power.

3184.Ashish Kar-USA
No point in diluting the brand name of IIT. It would be better if we could raise the standard of other institute and bring it at par with iit without giving any care to its name :

3190.Chandan Mendiratta-India
Save IIT, Save IITians, Save India

3199.Sanjay Jadhav-India
I support the Petition

No More IITs Petition - Comments 2700-3000

2706.Shravan Agrawal,IIT KGP '84-USA
Govt shoud not christien existing institution as IIT.Open new IITs spread accross the nation (not one per state).Increase intake of existing IITs.

2709.Gaurav D. Upneja-India
Stop making quantities, build qualities.....

2712.Lalit Kumar Bansal-India
First make the college to up their standard to the level of IIT.After that only awarding a status should be considered.

2713.Suchismita-India
Please dont dilute the IIT brand, creating more of IITs would lower the standards of teaching and students

2719.T.Sri rama krishna-india
i am iitan so i feel it has to be preserved

2721.Kunal Sharma-India
Please, preserve the IIT brand name, and if possible leave IITs alone and come with other options that do not evoke routine hue and cry year after year

2722.Praveen Jha-USA
These guys are bent on doing whatever they can to destroy the nation. It seems they are under some kind of spell in which they can do nothing good. They are taking deliberate steps to harm India in any way they can making sure the people remain ignorant, uneducated and deprived. The same people bring them to power. Though I do not have much hope that these subtle acts like online petitions can break this vicious circle against such evil, let's not lose heart and keep trying.

2734.nikhil kumar singh-INDIA-IIT MADRAS, m.tech
we have to pay attention on quality not on quantity

2737.Manoj Kumar Rawat-India
The IITs will lose their numero uno position and the respect the IITians command if more IITs are created.

2742.Priyank Sharma-India
Fully support this argument. Name the other colleges differently. Do not get into brand-dilution.

2743.Narendra Prakash Singh-India
Please stop this Rat Race

2747.Praveen Tewari-USA
IIT's are renowned for their uniqueness and accomplishments of the alumni. Let us refrain from diluting the name of IIT's by adding more and more institutes to the fold.

2749.Mohinder L. Nayyar-USA
I belive that the objective of the GOI is to provide sufficient funds for the proposed colleges by branding them IIT. It is wrong to change the name without changing the basic culture of the college. It will lower the prestige of IITs abroad and at home. Do not do it for political purposes, if any. Preserve the status.

2750.Arun kumar sharma-India
Its the brand name which should not be mixed with others.

2753.Udhaya Shankar-India
Please don't undermine the status of one of India's unique prides

2758.C.S.Satish Babu-INDIA
please don't spoil the Brand Name

2760.Arun Khan-INDIA
Need to keep and improve the quality of the IITs comparable to the top level Engineering Universities/Institutions in the US and Europe. This can be achieved only by keeping the standards high. More IITs will simply dilute the quality of the output.

2762.Raghuveer-India
If any more IIT's then I strongly suggest setting up new ones like Guwhati.

2764.Aseem Vaid-USA
dont dilute the IIT Brand and reputation, it is equally harmful for the nation as well as for students. Take the example of premier institutions worldwide and see for yourselves.

2788.Sarang Tatimatla-India
Tell me one thing...why do you think the IIT's are THE IIT's? Is it because of the teaching standards? Is it because of the facilities? Is it because of the students? Just introspect on these questions and you will go with the last one. The other factors do play a part, but it is the students that make an IIT. We must agree that our seniors played a very important role in our development as overall individuals. (c'mon, we were absolute duds when we stepped into the IIT's). Now by converting a little known college (never heard of many of the listed colleges before) into an IIT, the whole IIT tradition is under serious threat. (Roorkee was on par with the IIT's at that time, so the statement "...Roorkee, hence XYZ..." does not hold)

Just imagine...ppl who clear JEE will go into these colleges and find seniors who are absolute imbeciles...I mean most of the newcomers would not be able to relate to them...there is a hell of an intellectual difference among the juniors and the seniors...principle of mental induction holds true...and bam...we've lost a future Leader (either Technological or Managerial).Just a viewpoint...I sincerely feel that the breeding grounds play an important part in the making of an IIT...if at all an IIT is to be made...make it from scratch...or evacuate a certain campus for a few years before making it an IIT or even better....let the IIT's remain as the elites...and nurture talent in the NIT's.

2794.Prashant-India
Establish brand new IITs rather than converting old ones.
Attract best of the faculty from around the work.
Encourage commercial R&D.

2800.vineet dubey-india
the idea of healthy competition is interesting.it should be tried and merged later if need be.

2803.Vikas Shenoy-India
Please preserve the identity of the IITs... do not dilute the brand value.... No more IITs please

2813.Vishwanath-India
Please... no more IITs... Let the value of IITs be everlasting and outstanding the way it remains in quality

2815.shiva kumar ramini-INDIA
I am strongly agreeing with the petition

2819.SuryaPrakash-India
Let's build another brand (in the academic world)

2823.Sumitava Biswas-India
Being from IIT-R 2004 passout batch, I strongly feel that the pride of India should not be diluted.

For the betterment of society, colleges other than IIT should be funded and managed with greater control. And who knows, we may get one more brand of colleges from them which we can be proud of other than IIT.

2826.Mukesh Kumar-USA
I support this petition. Brands take years to build and should not be allowed to be simply copied.

2827.Atul Srivastava-USA
Instead of opening IITs in each and every "gulli", invest more in current IITs to upgrade their infrastructure and labs etc.

2828.Pawan Tyagi-USA
Before renaming institue pl. put a check on quality of reserach and teaching output for some years then pl. consider them to provide status equivalant to IITs. Let other institute evolve themselves (with proper funding and encouragement) to world class institute. Naming them to IITs may not help in improving their situation in actual.

2831.Siddharth Sanyal-Australia
It is empathized to IITians as well as others that IITs are the provenance of Technology and Management leaders in India. We need leaders today to serve the country and the world. Understanding that there is positive population and economic growth in India, let there be new freshly created IITs instead of being burdened by the responsibility of cleaning the crap of other institutions, which sadly have rotten to a point of irreversibility.

2834.Anurag Jaiswal-USA
It took years for IITs to become IITs and preserving the IIT Brand is not only in interest of alumni of IIT but also in interest of govt. of India to encourage healthy competition and leverage IIT brand abroad to retain and improve IT image. I am sure Chinies politicians must be brain storming to create such a brand value where as we are planning to dilute the same.

2837.Rohit Kumar-India
Making lots of IITs is like killing its own brand value. IIT has a name becoz of the creame-de-layer. Let it be a layer. Not the whole milk. or no body will recognize it then.

2839.Rohit Kumar-India
Making lots of IITs is like killing its own brand value. IIT has a name becoz of the creame-de-layer. Let it be a layer. Not the whole milk. or no body will recognize it then.

2852.rahul tripathi-INDIA
THIS CONCEPT OF INCREASING THE NO. OF IITS IS IDIOTIC AND SHALL TARNISH THE EXISTING GREAT LEGACY OF THE IITS

2858.Jaspreet Narang (B.Tech EE IIT KGP 2005)-United Kingdom
There are only 1 Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, MIT etc.

2864.Jeyaseelan-India
The name change will definitely rot the IITs in due course of time

2865.Satish Bhalerao-USA
Start new ones. Don't convert. Add.

2866.Jisha Abubaker-USA
A concerned citizen clearly against any IIT brand dilution schemes

2871.Tirthajyoti Sarkar-USA-University of Illinois at Chicago
I agree with the potential dissolution of the strength of the brand name. More research oriented education structure in these new centres of excellence would automatically give them the recognition and repute.

2872.Aparoop Chakraborty-India-IIT KGP Batch 2002
There are very many examples of Brand Dilution. Let not the Govt make the grave mistake

2880.Ajit Shenoy,IIT Madras,1979, Electronics-USA
The IITs were built painstakingly over many years and their reputation is based on capturing India's best and brightest via the JEE. Simply renaming an existing (and lesser) institution an "IIT" does a disservice to the efforts of legions of IIT students who toiled mightily to get there and the highly dedicated faculty who taught them.

I would strongly suggest selecting some other name such as "University of XYX", where XYZ is the state name, or "India University, YYZ Campus"

What was wrong with the name "Regional Engineering College" to begin with? These already had a national identity, in that they were all named "REC, XYZ", where XYZ was the city, and they were recognized as the next best alternative college system after the IITs. Keep it that way.

2882.Kamlesh Sinha-USA
I think this is very important. As this will undervalue the Brand image of RECs as well. If there would be so many IITs then RECs wont stand a chance.

2883.Niraj Jha-USA
I sign the petition cause I agree the IIT Brand name will be diluted.. However I feel what the GOI is doing is not wrong. Today Indian competition is nothing but taking its toll on Students. Students are selected based not on Merit but on sheer hard work ut thru years and years of hardwork. I have known of friends who have sent 2-3 years just to be in one of the IITs. They have both failed and succedded.

The failed ones have later succeeded much more than most IITians in life but repent wasting 2-3 years on the same course of +2 level. Those who have succeeded are also similarly repenting on the years lost. With the coming of many IITs more and more people will get a chance to be there at the first place. And the bright students wont have to spend life on a 2 year course for upto 5 years or so..

Well there is one MIT, one Cambridge, one Oxford and similarly there is one IITK, one IITKGP, one IITB, one IITM. Why dont you work for the brand rather expect the brand to work for you. When IITs opened in 1970s, there was just one of it. Had they said we do not want other IIT most of you would not have been signing this petition. It took one visionary to make 5 IITs and another visionary to add 7 to it. Do you have any idea as to how many took the JEEs in 1970s and how many take it now.

So its not only required to open more IITs its just on the students. Ask XLRI what it takes to stand out of the crowd. Opening more IITs will also help many deserving poor students who cannot afford costly tutions and courses but are naturally bright, yet cant afford private intitutes.

2884.Kalpesh V. Upadhye-USA-IIT Bombay, Class of 2002
Most importantly, IIT faculty are PhDs unlike other colleges

2886.AMLAN GHOSH-India
Please choose any super technical name for other engg. college

2893.Vineet Rajput-US
First the teacher pool needs to be strengthened. If there is already a shortage of qualified professors at existing IITs, why dilute the pool further

2895.Arun Jain-India
I completly agrees with the Petition to Preserve the IIT Brand and would like to add that when govt. is not able to support the existing IITs, their should not rise the question of more IITs. First GoI have to look into the conditions of exisiting IITs and explore their full potential, which in my opinion has been explored upto 25\% till date, as IITs can produce more Scientist and Engineers of world class as compared to what we have today from our country.

2898.Prachi Singhal-India
I sincerely agree with this petition to save IITs from deterioration of its image. But most people think its not completely right and we should work for the brand rather expect the brand to work for you. Then why follow the brand name?

If its only a question for giving chance to equally bright children then why go for name "IIT"? Its rightly said in the petition that choose a new name for these institutes. Who knows in future they might develop as a higher brand than IIT. And similarly, the reverse can also happen. So better don't use the brand IIT and put its reputation at stake

2904.ramjeet meena-india
this is not write that it........... the image of iits will b spoiled

2908. Radhakrishnan J-India
Whats in a name ? Well the name has a brand value that is a result of how the IITs take students and how they function. And replicating that in other institutions would most certainly take time. So in the short term, there would definitely be a brand dilution. Instead, let there be another brand. Renaming doesn't change GoI's objectives or affect how it plans to achieve 'em. Besides, having one more brand would fuel a healthy competition.

2912.amit kumar singh-india
IITs representes india let them do so for a long period them increasing there numbers will result in the dilution of there reputation.

2919.Sourabh-India
Making so many IITs doesn't serve the purpose either way. If we want to provide quality engineering education to more indians, we can build good institutions with some other name, which operate along the lines of IIT. It is not necessary that all good engineering colleges in India shuld be called IITs

Once the world gets to know that there are 14 IITs in the country, educating 5000 or more engineers, they will n longer respect the IIT name.

2924.Krishna Kumar Rao Mocherla-USA
Please do not let political gimmickry endanger the fine reputation of IITs and dilute the standards that have been maintained so far. The Indian diaspora worldwide has established a great reputation only because of the excellence of the current IITs. This is in danger of being lost with the lowering of standards.

2925.S S Saravanan-M Sc IITM, 2004-India
I fully support the views expressed in the petition. Just changing the name board of a college is not going to help in any useful way. This move will do justice neither to the colleges concerned nor to the IITs. I humbly request the PM and his cabinet to drop the idea.

2928.Vijia Kumar Karra-USA-IIT KGP 1967
Please don't Commoditize the Brand that Created a Great Image to the Indian Technology Sector

2936.Shatajit Basu-India
I completely agree with the contents of the petition. Every country needs to have eletist institutes and IITs need to be given the same status

2945.Sayantan Lahiri-India
Please dont make it another "stone laying" farce!

2949.vangala praveen kumar-india
You could even bring REC`s into picture

2952.Abhishek Nadamani-USA
Utterly ridiculous. It creates a two - tier IITs. So not serving the purpose

2963.Sasi Kumar-India
If those institutes are really at par with IITs why do they require an IIT mask. instead of giving IIT status, Indian Govt. should encourage them to emerge themselves as a new brand just like BITS Pilani and PSG College etc..

2965.ved prakash lal-india
I fully endorse the message about saving iits' brand name

2977.Hema Chandra Prakash-India
I strongly Agree

2979.Sanjay Jagtap-Singapore
the existing IITs should increase capacity, rather than converting other colleges

2983.Raghav Mittal-India-IIT KGP - Class of 2004.
The Indian politicians are anathemic to anything exemplary. For them the promotion of mediocracy is a safe bet to remain in power. The killing of the IIT Brand is just the beginning. Let's see what all happens in this country if the enlightened one's don't come together to take on the reigns of the nation. Where are the democratic principles applied in this decision ? I wonder that our "great" political leaders don't even understand the basics of marketing. Just by giving a name will empower an institution, looks funny.

Let the entire IIT Fraternity start a non-cooperation movement with the Government of India to strongly protest against this foolish move. Let's send our IIT degrees back to the Hon'ble HRD Minister with our letter of protest. Let all IIT Foundations hold all the financial support to the IITs. Let the entire IIT fraternity rise up in unison and make a plea to the Hon'ble Supreme Court requesting to safeguard the fundamental duty of "To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement. ". The dilution of the IIT brand would demean the excellence of these institutions. Let all IIT groups make it very clear and explicit that they won't let the other members into their fold.

2987.R. Sthanunathan-India
Let us create multiple brands with their own value instead of just sticking with and diluting one brand

2988.ashish gupta-India
When I graduated IIT JEE took 3000 candidates Now it is more than 5000. It is doubling every 3 yrs. Please keep the brand value... Otherwise India will loose their BRAND IIT

2996.Ratul Chatterjee-India
I agree totally with this petition. I would urge the government to enhance the level of the IITs. Also to upgrade the level of technical education at the other Indian institutes concrete plan can be formulated so that the IITs can share their knowledge with the other institutes

2998.sunil-india-no for diluting iit brand name

IIT Brand is premium and should be preserved as a symbol

No More IITs Petition - Comments 2500-2700

2503.S. Balakrishnan-USA
Please Invest in HITs, Don't Dilute IITs

2504.Deepak Pandey-USA
I am sure this campaign will be a success. I wish that our great leader give a little thinking with out thinking about politics

2507.Joseph-India
I accept the concept in the petition. So pls don't rename the colleges into IIT. Rather raise the standard of the other colleges into the standard of IIT's and make a way for competition.

2510.Subbu Mahadevan-USA
No university should be 'converted' overnight to an IIT. I think a process that clearly outlines minimum standards in several categories should be set and each potential candidate evaluated against it.

2511.havewala-India
How can you create 7 new IITs overnight?

2514.Gyan Prakash-INDIA
I support the fair motive behind the plea.

2521.Venkateswara Rao M-INDIA
I think this is a best sugestion

2526.Gaurav Singhal-USA
Instead of captilazing on IIT brand, we should be building institues of similar or
higher value under some other name.

2532.hemanth-india
it is disgusting to hear that a lot of colleges are given the status of an iiit

2535.Gaurav Sharma-India
Making a new brand altogether is a very good idea

2541.Sudhakar Rao-India
REC 's were renamed as NIT's.
Now NITs are going to be called IIT's..
Why nor rename all IIT's to MIT's next ?

2545.Arun kumar mishra-india
i think roorkee people should not be taken in this campaign because they are also converted. dont make ur campaign funny by including roorke.

2546.Arun K. Tangirala-India
I strongly agree with the views. Please do fund the universities but do not give them the brand name of IIT

2559.S.Koti-INDIA
Every Technical person wants to be an IIT'n but it may possible to him or may not. Incresing the no. of IIT's is not the better way .It may become dilute. The first and farmost idea of the starting the IIT's is to serve the Nation and to extract students talent from different parts of the country.

2562.Ankur Arora-india
IIT is a global brand.. Dont let the shine go of its brand image

2566.Amol Gharat-India
Giving the colleges the name of IIT wont improve them.

2570.K Ugendar-India
good suggession but providing fund to both HIT and IIT may not possible for GOI If it is possible for the all IIT alumni to provide funding by one way or other way to their respective IITs then it is easy for the GOI to create healthy competition between IITs and HITs

2583.Raghu-USA
Better spend some money on improving the infrastucture of of the counntry, then doing the renaming process. In few years new govt will come, and will want to name IIT as MIT... Name does not matter , quality doe

2589.Rosemary Fernandes-USA
Dear PM, What has made an impact on the world is the quality of the IIT students. It has taken over 50 years for IIT's to get the recognition they get now. Do not take it away from them by lowering their standard in the eyes of the world. By renaming existing universities that are not in the same cadre you run the risk of losing all that IITians have established. You will lose the value of IIT and it will be very difficult to find the true IITian amoungst others .. just as it would be hard to find a true diamond if all white stones were called diamonds. Create another system of universities and let them all prove and find their worth. You will surely lose the value of IIT brand in the eyes of the world if other universities are given the same name without years of acid tests. It will look like a quick cheap bandage in the eyes of the world. Everyone stands to lose.

2590.Diwakar-USA
It is common understanding that some of the colleges that are being considered for renaming to IITs had very non-transparent and non-standard admission procedures in the past, that were often abused.
Alumni of the old college should ideally continue to receive copies of degree certificates, transcripts, etc., under the name of the old college, and not HIT.

2592.Pratyush Tiwari-India
Please maintain the standard of IITs, by not making them accessible to everyone, as other REC, and Engineering institues do exists for everyone let the stidents compete in a fair manner and only the best get selected to the Niche institutes.

2595.Vivek Katiyar-USA
The competition with IIT's idea is excellent

2597.Padmanava Debnath-India
It is imperative to uphold, respect & maintain the sanctity of the existing IITs. The whole concept of brilliance would get diluted if every other college is tagged as an IIT. The concept of HITs and competition between the two breeds is a great idea.

2601.Avay Kumar-India
The bad effect will be seen after 8 years. They have already down graded IITs with lower standard in JEE.

2602.Peri-India
It is time the govt builds an alternate to the IITs. That way we would have more choice and competition

2603.Prasanta Behera-India-IIT Kharagpur,Mechanical Engg, 1998
Please do not dilute the Brand IIT, it has taken India a long time and lot of hard work to build this brand.

2605.Debasish Chatterjee-India
I support this petition

2609.Chandra Manglani-India
We must plan for more engineering institutes of world-class standard, but they cannot be brought up to the mark by just tagging them as an IIT. This would need a sustained period of commitment, both academic and financial.
Declaring 10 more IITs might generate short-term political mileage, but this would run the huge risk of eroding the value established by the IIT brand-name.

2611.Bipulendu Haldar(B.TECH,1998,IIT-KGP)
India The Brand IIT should not be diluted.

2616.Parth Shah-India
A brillient suggestion!

2621.Shailesh Arya-India
Colleges should create their own brand like BITS instead of using other collesge's brand to improve

2622.Atul Kharabe-India
I support the plea to preserve the IIT brand and maintain the high standards associated with it.

2624.Ranjan Sen-UK
As a concerned citizen I say Create new institutions of excellence but leave alone what is good and does not need to be tampered with.

2625.Sudhir Kumar Pidugu-India-B.Tech (IIT-KGP) 1998
The brand IIT should not only be saved from being diluted but it also must be vigorously protected. Companies, training institutes like NIIT shouldnt be allowed to steal the hard earned name and reputation of IITs.

2637.shailendra nath agarwal-india
why use iit brand. the purpose can be served even if the standard is upgraded. you may like to emulate MIT USA which is higher brand.Leave iit brand alone. you may open new iits ofcourse or may increase the intake but upgradation to iit does not make sense.

2647.Pradeep Srivastava-Canada
No comversions to IITs of existing institutes Can make 2-3 new IITs DO not make a large number and DILUTE quality

2649.Lavneet Janagal-India
if more students are selected for such instt. as IITs the level of students will surely come down and more people will start accumulating in non-medical side only and no one to do other vital jobs!

2655.Mrinal Virnave-USA
It does make economic sense to preserve the IIT brand
3 lines of comments does not give me enough space to explain

2656.Indra Singh Rouriya-India these r the best institutes and it will not be a good decision of changing IITs to more IITs like institutes

2657.Abhimanu Kumar-India
A very good move and this should spread worldwide

2668.Sravanth Aluru-India
This is certainly not a sensible idea. Quality i thought was more important than Quantity.

2670.Himanshu Kapoor-USA
I completely agree with the view mentioned here. Let us not dilute the hard work of 50 years.

2676.Sandeep Thakran-USA
I strongly stand behind NOT diluting the IIT brand Name GOI should create institute of technology by every state just like in United States and every institute will earn its pride through GOI support GOI should work on building new association by linking regional colleges to foriegn institute especially in this globalization era where India will be at the forefront

2679.Venkatakrishnan Panrutti-India
I strongly disagree with such a movement. IIT is an institution I revere.

2681.Anurag Srivastava-USA
I fully support this. This will only dilute the IIT brand name.

2688.Ani Kumar Gupta-USA-IIT Roorkee,2004
I stronly disagree with the proposal of dilluting the brand name of IIT

2689.Samresh Kumar Verma-USA
Mr Prime Minister and Mr. HRD Minister, Don't make a hasty decision. It's not worth. IITs have a prestigious name in the world, just don't do it.

2695.Rajeev Goel-India
Govt colleges should not be converted to IIT's, if required Govt to develop new Institutes as IIT ground up

2696.Gautam Khanna-India
We need to save the IIT brand from getting diluted to the point where it stops getting the respect it commands.

2697.Harvinder Singh-India
It makes no sense to dilute the brand after spending so much money to create it, moreover there is no gain that I can see.

No More IITs Petition - Comments 2300-2500

2300.Yogesh Amle-India
Save the IITs and its brand.I dont understand the Govt rationale behind branding the RECs as IITs. If funding and support is the motive, it can be done by creating a new brand or not hampering the IIT brand.

2302.Manikandan-India
why our government is not interested in new brand names, so that those brands can again bring laurels to our country, like what IITs are doing now.

2303. Ananth R India, Chennai I feel that the IITs have built up a brand image that is exceptional and world-class quite unlike any other. The quality of education is also excellent and setting up of IITs will only reduce not only the brand image but also the qualtiy of education. Hence it is a futile thought

2310.P.G.KRISHNAMURTHI-INDIA
I fully agree with the above views. But, when, Delhi Engg.college was converted into IIT, itself, we should have started our action. Anyway, better late than never.I had earlier written against converting Cochin University into an IIT.

2313.Mahesh Tripathi-India
Let's not ride on somebody else's success but put in efforts to make brands and take to that level

2315.Surbhi Jain-INDIA
I agree. The idea of creating a new brand of institutes in healthy competition with the IITs is a more suitable and fruitful idea rather than giving them the status of Deemed IITs.

2319.Ram Kumar-India
I think we need more colleges in India of international repute than just IITs . Let the other institutions command respect globally and not dilute the IIT brand.

2333.Nalinikanth Gollagunta-USA-BTech-IITM 1998
Creating new IITs ground up would be a much better option

2342.Gaurav Kedia-Germany
Let us keep the goodwill of IITs and not make it as political agenda.

2343.Deepak Gidwani-USA-IITD 1981

We don't want to make only name the institutes in India.Make more quality institutes don't destroy some standard institutes that are in India.

2355.Mayukh Banik-India
Because of crisis & hardness of the entry pass, IIT is at the crest. Please don't bring it down for the sake of this reknowned institute.

2358.T.R. Ranganath-USA
The institutions and their students need to earn their reputation. The idea of just handing somebody the reputation is wrong and counter-productive. The university of California system has added campuses, not by renaming existing institutions but by building them from the ground up. I believe there are many good reasons (some of which have been talked about in the petition) why this course of action has been pursued. Please build qualtity institutions from the foundation by all means. This course of action will certainly provide good competition to the existing IITs and as a consequence strenghten both groups in the process. This will take time, but time and effort that is well spent. When the new institutes develop their own reputations based on their accomplishments, I am sure they inturn would not like to see their hard earned reputations given away to somebody else for nothing.

In short, please don't screw-up a good thing that you have! Reputations can be ruined easily, while it takes a long time to build - 50 years in the case of the IITs!

2361.Guthi Raja Sekhar-India
strongly agree with my alumni views

2378.Karthik T J-India
We should first improve the standards of IITs which are facing problems like shortage of Professors, infrastructure. I feel it is not a good idea to start more IITs at this juncture which will only worsen the current situation.

2379.Rajeev R Pradhan-India
I support the initiation of such petition afterall Brand indentity has to be preserved ! We do come across lookalike Fake and this needs to be protected

There are only 7 IITs in world let them be 7, create colleges which are different than IITs. I believe India has potential to produce other than just engineers.

2387.Prabhakar K. Vichare-USA, India
Exhanging faculty is a better idea or promtional opportunities for academic staff but not pure arbitrary transfers at Government' will.

2400.ARINDAM BARAL-INDIA
Its quite disgusting when we came to know that many small regional colleges will be given the status of IIT. IITIANs are the best among all and their value should not be minimized.

2411.Sridhar Gopaluni-US
I support the plea to preserve the IIT Brand and encourage all alumni to do the same.

2413.Point@IITM-INDIA
i m with u guys but seriously i dont have slightest hope. people who dont care about their country aren't worth sending some plea. i dunno what they( our respected politicians) want but even a tiny country like bangladesh has guts to kill our soldiers and send ITS PM here on a visit. man i m fed up with their so called ahinsatmak (non violence they call it but its more like their neglecting and irresponsible attitude of a weakling). anyway i just emptied my heart. sorry i may be biased but these r my views.

2415.Ajay Singh Niranjan-Delhi,India
Hon.Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh & Hon.HRD Minister Mr.Arjun Singh, Dear Sir,

Myth:
conversion of some institute to IITs for national interest?
Reality: I think that national interest mean RECs or NIT or HIT (Hindustan Institute of technology: It is recommended for future brand) stabilize their own brand on global level. Like MIT or Stanford University. And it will give better space of healthy competition. So HRD ministry should provide more funds, better infrastructure facility, and more intellectual resource to NIT.National interest means every national level institute empowered through various levels like integration with IITs, Foreign University, collaborate with industries extra.

National interest means, they ( HRD ministry ) worked – How real research work stimulate from institute, how transparent and open system will develop, how institute will transform their mechanical system to Organic system ( mean very flexible or adaptive with CHANGE), How we give student 4 dimensions development Because It is the right time for Institute to produce ENTREPRENEURS / ENGINEER simultaneously.

National Interest means allocate more funds on Education Sector. It means open new IITs not conversion of Some institute to IITs. It means deregulation and decontrol of higher education. If national Interest means think and work beyond political interest or personal interest. It is better for national level Institute work in open environment and any political agenda can not interfere at any rate.

Education Centre is a temple of knowledge in which there are no space of political agenda because we can not compromise with future of coming generation. I think that Transfer of body (sound Infrastructure or better facility & good funding) is OK, Transfer of Minds ( Intellectual resouces , Knowledge, ) is OK, Transfer of Heart ( Emotional supports or empowering )is OK, BUT Transfer of IIT Brand ( the soul or the core value ) is not OK.

Just try to think at visionary platform. Any conversion can damage feeling of healthy competition. Our main focus should be , HOW WE CAN MAKE REC OR NIT OR HIT as a global brand like IIT Brand. But Definately It should need consistent hard works. SO begin to WORK.

2416.Dipendra Pratap Singh-india
there is increase in no. of IITs but wat about AIIMS that have only 50 no. intake............is india there r sufficient amount of good doctor not engineer??

2423.Ram Nehra-USA
Govt's effort to exploit IIT brand name are condemnable. Govt should rather try establishing parallel series of NITs.

Sir, IIT brand name has world wide recognition , since the number is countable. Opening more IITs won't enhance, quality of the technical eductaion by over night.. Rather do invest on infrastructure of existing top ranking Institutes for healthy competion with IITs. However, do not rename the institutes to IIT, in order to reatin the brand name.

In my opinion, what is needed today is two urgent actions:

1.Set goals to all existing technical institutions to emulate IIT standards

2.IITs today lack certain standards compared to leading US universities.Find ways and means to resolve this.

The current move to name seven colleges as IITs would certainly dilute the brand image of IITs. This brand image is not just a pride for the alumni of these institutes but a pride to the entirenation. Hope the authorities would appreciate the point.

No More IITs Petition - Comments 2200-2300

2200.Ankit Goel-India
I totally agree to the plan outlined in the petition. IIT is a brand name just like MIT, Stanford and the likes. Dilution can bring it down.

2201.ramesh-india
please preserve the brand name which iit's uphold them

2210.Rajnil Mallik-USA-IIT Kgp,1998
Sir, The other institutions that you are trying to bring under the IIT umbrella would be best served by creating a global brand similar to the IITs ON THEIR OWN. That will ensure success in the future, shining off reflected glory won't.

2231.Nafeesa-India
IIT's are best and unique.Let's maintain the difference we make to the world.....

2232.Shankar Kumar (IIT Madras)-India
Please preserve the IIT Brand name. No more IITs please..

2234.Bijan Choudhury-India
Instead of converting existing university/institute to IIT it is advisable to create new IIT like IITG.

2243.angshu rai-india
why dont include them in nit's

2252.Rambo-Australia
There is a big difference between giving birth to a new baby and nurturing it with a ton of love and care. This can never be the same as adoption or fostering especially when the children are in their teens or older. The same philosophy applies to adopting, renaming and funding existing engineering colleges Please create Brand new IITs like Guahati which you did as HRD Minister. If each costs Rs 10, 000 crores or more so be it. Let us create atleast two new IITs each year if possible and have three joint venture partners each. GOI + State Govt + a Sponsor Nation ( USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, UAE ). None of these countries will hesitate to pump in US $ 2 Billion each to create State of the Art Institutions. like IITs Even Japan and Korea might consider the proposition Let India get creative and Proactive.. We have behaved like slaves too long His Masters Voice has long gone It is now Sony, EMI and a new world of iPods.

2258.Saurabh Chawdhary-INDIA
please preserve the brand name which iit's uphold

2261.R. Ramkumar-INDIA
Its a good idea to give a similar name like HITs and create competition... even each of those colleges can be given a distinct name so that the competition in this field will improve, which will benefit the nation.. and overall quality of education will improve in INDIA.

2262.Nadella Suneetha-India
I accept to the prosopal 100%

2263.Anup Kumar Chakravarty-India-B.Tech. IIT Madras 2003 Batch
After Independence all Work by Govt of India has proved to be futile except the IITs and IIMs. Then why the Govt wants to ruin them also? Please let the IITs grow and be Brand Ambassadors of India.

Let Research in IITs be one of the Best in the World so that people dont have to go out of India for PhD and Research. Research should come at such a level that it should not need Govt Funding and Industries should fund it.

The Salary of the Faculty Members should be increased so as to retain their talent in India. Its really bad that a Professor at IIT after so many Year of hard work gets much less than what he deserves. Money should be diverted for modernising the exsisting Institutes rather than creating new Institutes and diluting them

2273.Srikanth-U.S.A
the comments are valid. Do not dillute the brand. let Indian government can set up more national colleges with better funding bu with a different name

2276.V.Giridhar-INDIA
I strongly favour to the concept of HITs and building healthy competetion between IITs and HITs and bringing up one more brand name(HITs) from INDIA, instead of renaming some of the exisisting colleges as IITs which will not make them equivalent to IITs either in standards or in culture

2279.Rudresh Ghosh-India
I also think that it would be stupid to dilute the IIT brand name. Other colleges should strive to achieve the same level of excellence rather than just attach to this name and be known for that.

2283.J VIJAY KUMAR-INDIA
Upgrading a few colleges as HITs will be beneficial , please dont dilute IIT brand name...its really pain to enter into IITs..and the infrastructure, facilities, faculy interaction etc can never be replicated in other institutes..

No More IITs Petition - Comments 1900-2200

1901.Jay Giri-US
i fully edorse the petition.

1905.V. Swaminathan-USA
The sentiment that the new universities being considered to be anointed with the IIT name are far short of performance especially in the quality of faculty available in those campuses (in fact even the original 5 IITs are stretched in finding, attracting and retaining the budgeted number of faculty) and hence will be unable to produce any IIT-caliber graduates - this sentiment was strongly shared by Professor Indiresan (a former IIT Director) at the 25th Reunion of Alumni at the IITM campus on Dec 25, 2005.

1907.MJC Prasad-USA
Yes, there is a need to stop this brand dilution as well as preserve the standard of JEE as an exam that is very different from the rest of the entrance exams

1908.Deepak Mishra-INDIA
Rather than renaming NIT's n other institutes to IIT, it'll be better to enhance their quality and let them build their own Brand!!

1910.Manohar Reddy-INDIA
please preserve the brand, dont dilute

1915.Sanjit Kumar Burnwal-IIT Kharagpur(2002)-INDIA
The idea of upgrading the standard of concerned institutes would have been better. Bring standards before converting to a brand. Once IITian always IITian. Proud to be an IITian.

1916.Sarath M-USA, IITM - class of 99.
The institutions that are at the verge of being named IITs are steeped in culture of campus politics, political influence and even violence. It is impossible to clense them of these and provide a fresh and free environment that exists in the original six IITs that was so important for us to become what we are today - honest, smart and outspoken! Renaming the institutions will be like selling old wine in a new bottle. In addition, IIT brand name is being diluted. Please do the nation a favour and start new IITs.

1919.Suman Mukherjee-India
If You have to make more IIt'sthen make sure that the marking in JEE is absolute not relative and if seats remain vacant let them be so

1922.Ravi Raamchandran-USA
Based on comments I have heard from faculty that I respect, this sounds like a political move that is only likely to tarnish the IIT image.

1925.Soubhagya Sahoo-India
if you try to sell fake products under a well-known brandname, you eventually get caught !!

1926.Micha Prem Kumar T-India
A true desire to improve the education system cannot be achieved by merely renaming colleges. This will not only downgrade the hard-earned world-wide brand name of the IITs, but will also create a false impression in the newly named colleges that giving them the name has strengthened their core educational offering. So we urged to reconsider the plan to rename the 7 colleges to IIT.

1935.chauhan-India
Dear Sirs, IIT system is not at all due to huge investment by GOI but mostly the work culture, ethics, pedagogic techniques, informal student-staff-professor relationships, dedication, commitment and many more. Mélange of world class infrastructure and unique institute culture attracted bright students and faculties. Huge investing in non-IITs may create a world class infrastructure but it will definitely take several years to develop an IIT culture. We appreciate the idea of developing very good institutions and strengthen the competitive institutions financially. But if Government really want to see more IITs based on the IIT system then instead of christening 7 Institution to IITs create one or two brand new IITs.

1951.Dr.Sumit Sur-USA
Diluting IIT brand name is a terrible idea. IITians are respected solely because of their quality - and there is no way this quality can be guaranteed by doubling the number of graduates.

1957.Avinash-USA
It is amazing to see the short-sightedness in addressing an issue at hand. Let us rename all colleges IITs and call 1 billion people in India software engineers! An ingenius way to address the problems of all ailments!

1966.Karan Sahni-USA
The IIT brand name should not be diluted

1972.Vijay-USA
While it is a good idea to broaden the IIT brand, the way it is planned by GOI - by these so called deemed IITs- makes no sense. They are not upto IIT standards in terms of faculty and facilities. They will definitely dilute the IIT brand.

1973.Satya Srinivasan-China
I am not an IITian and I am based in Shangai. There must have been some article in the media in Chinese that I could not read but got told by my chinese friend, that if Indian Govt goes through with upgrading other old engineering colleges to IITs and dilutes them it would help Chinese colleges get better recognition globally. India does not need enemies to destroy it. All India needs is its own Govt and corrupt Politicians and administrators who can do a better job of destroying India. We Indians are so used to this anyway, why bother?

1977.Rajarshi Guin-India
Just renaming an institute doesn't really transform it to an IIT, It requires years of hardwork, dedication and a pool of great talents to build up the recognition. By the way, how do you suddenly get so many bright students who will be at par with the 'IITians' ?

1983.B.G.KINI,M.TECH.,POWAI,1978-INDIA
Transforming Mr.Arjun Singh into a world-renowned, eminent economist is very simple; just rename him deemed Dr.Manmohan Singh!!

1984.Hariharan S-India
I am going to change my name to either Srinivasa Ramanujan or Albert Einstein. This is in line with the thinking of the Govt. of India.

1990.Prajith P Kumaran-India
Please don't dilute the reputation of IIT

1993.Vijay Kumar-India
Dear Hon.PM & Hon.HRD Ministers,
The thought of creating IIT type institutions is a very valuable to the future generation but to split and divide the prestige of IIT into more institutions will not only negate the standards but also will severely effect the zeal and enthusiasm of IITians to give back to India and more so with the Citizens of India, who consider IITs as a crown jewel of Indian technology schools.

Please do not dilute IITs, rather find out the best co-operation in the world to start another set of institutions like IITs to increase our educational feasibility and make them two role models of the world by carrying forward the dreams of the creators of these prestigious Institutes. I am more than sure that most Indians will agree with my line of thinking

1995.Arun Kulshreshth-US
I really appreciate it. Govt of India should not do it. Otherwise IITs will suffer a lot.

2000.mayank-india
its really incorrect on the part of government to dilute the brand name of iit .IIT through traditions has lived as one of the major center for education in india .by saying this i dont demise other institutes ,other are great as wellbut IIT has its own name .we are just demanding that new institutes should have different name .this thing by all means is justified.

2001.Varun Arya-India
We have no choice but to preserve the few islands of excellence which have remained in the field of education in India.

2008.Shamendra Ekka-India
It took 50 years for the IITs and the IITians to prove themselves as a Global Brand. Please don't take that away from them.

2009.Prashant Jain-USA
Preserve the IIT brand at all costs. Fund other institutes under a different name. This avoids the IIT brand dilution and hopefully creates a competing brand.

2011.Pradeep Yadav-India
GOI should put some efforts in providing infrastructure to raise the standard of existing rec's, just naming them to IIT won't help

2012.Amitoj Cheema-India
It seems like a perfect solutions to me. Please save the IIT brand name.

2013.Amitoj Cheema-India

A possible solution to all these nightmares that HRD seems to create every year is to move IITs and IIMs directly under the control of the PM. If PM Dr Manmohan Singh could free up and give the economy of the nation a boost, I am sure he will take autonomous IITs and IIMs to greater glory.. We need an HRD Minister young and with a vision to educate the rural masses. Another suggestion would be to dismantle AICTE that is very corrupt and the entire nation is aware of this.

If the current proposal materialises may be IITians may have to drive taxis too and we do not want that .. Please look after Indias assets

2124.Ravi Joshi-India
its really a good petition, would like to contribute my efforts for the same.IITs are jewels of india and shouldnt be diluated.

Please dont bring down the standard of IIT's..

2144.sourabh verma-iit madras-india
already a lot of iitans r jobless. Except cs and electricals all branches of iits r getting 20-40\% placement in campus. Only JEE is Demanded and rest of the people just want to have a good background and not want to go to Banch job. If people really dont want to do engineers job . Why to waste more fund in serving other countries in bussiness.

2145.Narendrakumar M Bhandari-Oman
Kindly do not treat the IITs as a commodity. IITs are temples that can be compared with Tirupathy, Vaishnov Devi, Sabrimalai, If we can we have multiple Tirupathy, Vaishnov Devi, Sabrimalai then we can have multiple IITs. The PM and HRD M are Learned men and must have missed the perspective we are showing them. I am sure they are not going to do this blunder.

2146.Kuldeep kumar-india
Please save IITs, and its Brand name that so many people have worked so hard to achieve.

2154.J P S Oberoi-USA
I absolutely agree with the petition. There could be no greater disservice to technology in India than to dilute the name of the IITs. I am sure both the Prime Minister of India and the HRD Minister understand this. Its probably the IAS Babus in the bureaucracy that are creating all the mess as always.

2155.S. Misra-USA
IIT's are a premier brand in technology education...we can not and should not dilute it

2157.Ravi Prakash-India
I agree with the plea as it took ard 30 yrs to build the image of IIT's But it may take even 2 or 3 batches to destroy these credentials

2160.Ashish Gandhe-India
Making more IITs is the worst thing that can be done. Quality and quantity can never go together. Imagine a duffer and a genius being treated in the same way because both are IITians, thanks to the ease in getting into an IIT because there are so many of them.

2168.R.Raghav-India
I feel that too many will spoil the standard of the IITs.it has a reputation that has been built slowly and with great dedication over the years.we must not spoil the reputation by a mistake.

2172.Nitin Gupta-India
I agree with the petition. Save IIT's Making HIT's or something on similar grounds (keeping IIT brand separate) is a much better option to upgrade the education system. Kindly note the purpose for which the IIT's were formed and do not dilute it

2176.Desmond Jacob-India
I totally agree with the idea expressed in the petition. There is no point in spoiling the IIT brand, esp by asociating it with private colleges which areway below IIT standards. Besides who can guarantee that these colleges wud keep up to the required standards all the time and not only during acreditation alone. Remember, its easy to attain great heights, its difficult to maintain them!!

No More IITs Petition - Comments 1800-1900

1801.Ram Krishnaswamy-Rambo,Australia
What is stopping India in year 2006, with its current economic growth and financial reserves and global recognition for sevrices by Indians to the IT sector to adopt the same plan that the Jawaharlal Nehru's Congress Govt used, soon after independence ?

Pick five or even ten new states in India that are pleading for IITs and give them all one new IIT each. I believe just like most Indians do that each and every Indian state should have one IIT to serve the needs of the country.

Let GOI create brand smack new IITs sponsored by USA, UK, Germany, Canada, Australia, France, Russia, Singapore, Holland, Sweden ( that stretches the list to ten ) We can definitely have a new IIT in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Poone, and Bihar, Haryana etc etc based on demand...

Every thing will be brand new, new campuses, great hostel facilities, state of the art labs, super duper faculty.......this will leave existing seven IITs looking like old worn out men past their prime. The sky is the limit for creative thinkers

1830.Jiten sharma-India
By giving IIT status to colleges like AMU and others, they are not going to get benefitted, it will only lead to jolt on IIT brand name...
Govt. can do much better for them rather than doing so

1833.V.Ranganathan-India
Even converting Roorki University into an IIT is a mistake. You cannot turn an ass into a zebra by painting stripes on it.

1835.Arnab Ganguly-India
Provide funding and support and allow the RECs to genuinely earn the name.

1840.Ravi-India
Please donot destroy IIT brand by distributing it

1845.vivek tiwari-india
Outside world knows IITs for their performance.. we can give OTHER NAMEs to new funded institute.... leaving the name of IITs in PEACE!!!!!!

1847.Ranjan Gupta-India
We seldom hear any news about, what HRD Ministry is doing to improve public education especially in Rural India where we still have 80\% illiteracy. Should this not be the main focus of HRD Ministry ? Please get off the IIT and IIM band wagons and allow them the autonomy that they enjoyed and was guaranteed under the Nehru regime in the sixties and seventies. We could understand MMJ trying to interfere with IITs and IIMs but we cannot understand why Congress party in 2006 would destroy its own creation...meddling with IITs and JEE is unwarranted

1854.Arjun Mehta-India
I would like GOI to consider this suggestion. Why not name all the eleven cricket players in the Indian squad Sachin Tendulkars ?? With eleven Sachins in the team we will not require even one bowler on our side as we can score 600 runs in a 50 over... ODI

When will GOI get real and appoint some one young and smart as HRD minister? The Govt needs IITians and IIMers more than any other organisations in the world to help govern this democracy, not IAS Babus

1858.Pritam Singh-India
positive response should be taken.the decision will affect the educational system of India. try to improve more the existing IIT's.

1863.Mahesh Parameswaran-India
Hon'ble Gentlemen.. Lets give the other colleges good infrastructure, good salaries for teachers and raise their standards and enable them to carve out a name for themselves than having a borrowed name. Quality - the world respects and quality comes about by sustained intelligent efforts and not by name change. A name change by itself will not lead to an upliftment of education standards which we in India very badly need.

Am sure the Hon'ble decision makers will choose to enable institutions by better infrastructure and better facilities rather than just a cosmetic name change.

1864.Nishu Kohli-India

No More IITs Petition - Comments 1700-1800

1703.S.Rajiv-India
Politicians should stop playing around with IIT's for their own vested interest. IIT's are institutes of national pride and not a matter of some senselss political agenda. Our leaders need to be more visionary on this Issue.

1712.varun-india
my opinion is that the brand name of IIT should not be generalized..otherwise no one will recognise IITand in world

1713.ankit rustagi-india
this is a very nice idea.....implementing this would not only achieve govt.'s plans to make quality technical education reachable to many more....., but would also protect the quality of intellect at the iit's.

1721.Ashok Bhatia-U.S.A
I sincerely believe that creation of a new brand name, as suggested in the petition, will create healthy competition. This will be good for all the involved educational institutes - new (HIT?) as well as IITs.

1726.Sagar-India
It's a mere act of foolishness to covert some low-graded institutes to IITs. IITs are highly reputed institutes across world. You can't name some college of engineering (which doesn't even stands in top 10 in world) as IIT.

1738.Prashant Billore-USA
Diluting IIT brand is not in the interest of India

1740.Deepak Kumar-USA
Pls allocate more funds to other colleges and let them grow their own brands better than IIT's.Mr Arjun Singh pls dont play trash politics with IIT's that you do with the minorities.

1741.N. Muralidhar-India, BTech, IITM, 1974
Increasing the number of IITs would lead to dilution of the brand that has done our nation proud.

1742.Ajay B Naidu-India
Idea is good, but we cant believe politicians, we have to take further step

1743.Gaurav Kumar-India
Name is a thing that makes us unique and feel different. But this difference should bring us closer - like unity in diversity, and not take us apart or feel alienated.

we call IIT's as our alma mater we feel a sense of association, a bond which will be destroyed if we are unable to distinguish ourselves in this big world. I personally do not find a reason to name all the colleges IIT, its ridiculus. The college might have a geographical, state (like UP, bihar, kanatak, J&K..,.....) or other things.

Naming all colleges IIT before giving them equal fund or treating them equally is absurd, rather a way to divert from the main issue (ie poor funding). Naming all colleges IIT sounds like having same names for everyone in the family....hah. Let the name of IIT be for us.

1765.K K NAGARAJAN-India
ITs ridiculous to dilute the brand name of IIT

1766.Kiran Biswal-India
Please don't sink the IITs, please save the world

1767.Balaji-India
Just by renaming the other colleges to IITs will only dilute the IIT brand. I do not see any purpose in doing it. Instead they should develop the NITs and build another global brand just like the IITs. It is detrimental to the current IITs to rename more colleges to IITs. Also, the average quality of students that the IITs get will go down, and IITs will never be what they are now.

1770.Amit Kumar Gupta-India
It is good that we want to make the reach of good technical education as far as possible. But we also need to keep in mind that we don't want to kill the brand name IIT. We as alumni of IIT will not be much affected. But we are saying this for the future generations and for all other people who come in.

1773.Gaurav Vaish-India
Let's not dilute the Brand IIT that took half a century to develop

1775.Manan Agrawal-India
IIT brand must be preserved at all costs. Infact, steps should be taken to improve the present 7 IITs to bring them akin to MIT. The standards of engineering education in other colleges should be improved by putting appropriate processes in place such as setting minimum quality standards for teaching faculty, designing an attractive remuneration package for the faculty at par with the market forces, improving infrastructure etc.

But, there should be no more labelling of selected colleges as IITs. This is only in the interest of the nation. I fully endorse and support the arguments in favor of no more IITs in the best interests of our nation.

1790.Om Jagadish Prasad-INDIA
plz preserve the IIT brand and most importantly try to raise the level through improving the infrastructure

regarding our performance, we will do it in much better way for an EMPOWERED INDIA, Jai Hind!!!!!

this.

1602.rahul saxena-india
its my strong plea to preserve iit brand.it will effect the future of all thousands of iitians.7 are enough

1605.Y N SAIRAM-INDIA
I strongly support this argument.....Pls dont dilute the brand of "IIT",which has been created by our own intellectual property (both students and as well Professors) working hard with several sleepless nights for about half a century down to this moment.

IITs are different from rest of the colleges in our country not just in matters of its autonomy, or for just the kind of benifits and funds it enjoys from the central government but for its professsors, students, alumni and ofcourse thier achievements and their vision.

And finally one important thing to consider seriously..........before you call any other college an IIT........The brand of "IIT" has naturally come from the success of its intellectual property in diverse technology areas across the globe. So a college should earn a brand by its own through its own intellectual property. So no institute on this earth has any right to share this brand unless it proved its worth like IITs having been doing making our nation proud for its intellectuality.

1614.Manish Sharma-India
A blunder........ instead the IITs should be made better

1618.Sundar Seshadri-USA
Yes, I agree. IIT culture and pedigree will be totally diluted if randomly more IITs are opened

1628.jawanth vytheeswaran-USA
I strongly oppose the name change of REC/NIT

1632.John C. Camillus-USA
Based on my extensive work experience in India and the US, I cannot overstate the value of the IIT name for both IIT graduates and the country. The IIT brand now creates ooportunities that would be lost if it is diluted. In a world where we have to compete for opportunities with equally capable individuals from other countries, the IIT name gives us an edge that is truly invaluable.

1650.PAULSON PAUL M-INDIA
something very much requiring immediate and adequate consideration by GoI. GoI should allow a national level debate over this issue as such decisions once taken can't be reversed

I fully support this petition and hope my vote counts

1308.Mayank Jain-India, Batch of 2007, IIT Delhi
I feel that this is a good step, and only hope that it can lead to a positive outcome for the future of the IIT Brand Name. Someone also please do something about the falling standards of the JEE, which will lead to an internal dilution of the IIT Brand. I even wrote an article for the Hindustan Times in response to the CBSE Head's comment about restricting the JEE to the Class XII syllabus and quality, and making it only an objective exam. Expectedly, it wasn't published.

1316.Abhinav-India
IIT is pride of India and we need to preserve IIT brandname

1317.V V Ramaswamy-UK
It has taken several years of efforts by the staff and outstanding performance by the Alumni in various fields all over the world for IIT to get recognition as a ‘Centre of Excellence matching any’. It is a case of achievement of ‘great vision of our founder fathers of the nation’. Why mass produce, water down the quality and with that the name, fame and recognition earned over several years? Can we not leave these outstanding institutions without tampering?

1328.manoj kumar himanshu-india
includes what others have said...it helps the iitian to have confidence and recognition and that implications of that has long way to go in helping country and prospiring condidate

1333.Pradeep-USA
Being an alumni from IITM, I think it is not in the right spirit to make other institutes equivalent to IIT's. If this goes through, other institutes changing their names to IIT's would ensue.

1334.Vikash Murthy Peesapati-India
I totally agree with the above, very well written petition

1341. Ajay Kumar Singh-IIT Roorkee-India
Conversion can Annihilate IDENDITY –Core value (IIT Brand )
1] IIT brand is a soul of IIT system. And this powerful spirits of IIT brand has been stabilized through consistent handwork of all professors, alumni and students. IIT brand is a core value of the system and it is not not transferable. If anyone transfers it to other, it violates core principles of visionary organization and after some time it degrades conscious level of spirit of IIT brand. Our mission is to enhance consciousness of IIT brand in all space, time and circumstance.

point[2]we are here and working very integrated way – HOW ??

Point 3] Every institution build own Identity so it create own uniqueness and brand through consistent hard work of all member which is interconnected with them.

Point 4 ]IISC,IIT ,BARC ,DRDO, NIT construct own IDENTITY according to core principle on which they work, definitely all are working very well, any conversion can annihilate its IDENDITY.

Point 5 ] Any conversion can not give any benefits because IT does not change root (core), If any system is try it then I believe that It violate principles of those institution and degrade conscious level of core . Finally The power of core value (IIT Brand ) is more than any interest of any institution , organisation and system . So presere the IIT Brand is our great resposibility otherwise vision of glorious organisation will become meaningless. So friend, Empowering the voice and CRUSH THE PERSONAL INTEREST OF SOME PERSON So that we can feel beauty of its core priciples.with wishes ..-- Ajay Singh Niranjan from IIT Roorkee

I completely agree with the petition. Moreover the suggestion to provide a different name is very creative and will provide a healthy competition which will be beneficial to all.

1352.Ananth-UK

1354.Aditya Ramani-USA
IIT is IIT because of it's selectivity. If 20,000 people got into MIT, it would suck

1357.Arnab Banerjee-India/WB
I support the move whole heartedly

1363.Bhargav-India
Mr. P.M. first give them good faculty n facilities , infrastructure and then think of naming it as IIT or whatever

1367.Udit Agrawal-Canada
Sir, the basic grounds on which the reputation of IITs is built is the quality of the students admitted through the toughest exam in the world, JEE. And more than that, it depends on the way this quality is maintained throughout the 4/5/6... years the student stays over their. The foundation of the fame that the IITs carry, is laid on the concept of the severe competitive environment they provide. Distribution of this name brand, will only lead to a dilution of this intensive competition within the IITs. Instead, as suggested in the above petition, giving them an external competition through something like the HITs will in practice enhance the educational scenario in India in the technological field. I hope the Indian Government will kindly listen to this plea by the IIT Alumni. Thank you.

1372.Vasanthan Raghavan-USA
Even without this issue, the brand name of IIT's are getting tarnished by the day. We do not have to add fuel to this raging fire.

1375.Anildev Vasudevan Unni-Canada
Renaming the colleges as IITs will be a great disaster, defaming the brand name of IITs which are worldwide accepted and recognized.

1384.Abhinav Garg-India
What makes it an IIT? A judgement criteria should be set up with respect to current IITs. And the students, faculty and facilities of an institution must be according to that judgement criterian to declare that institution as an IIT. The academics system of a new IIT should be like that of present IITs

1388.Arijit De-USA
First improve the standards of other colleges then dare to give them such a brand

1389.Hari Krishna Dutt-Canada-BTech IITM 2005
It is important that the IIT name be preserved as any other intellectual property or brand name is!! Increasing quantity will not improve quality!!

1402.Pavan Rai-USA
I am from the batch of IIT Bombay 65, and feel very strongly that we not dilute the IIT brand.

1405.Eakta Jain-India
Interestingly, there was a Review Committee that came to IITK two years ago. During their interaction with students, they said something along the lines that there are no immediate plans to create more IIT's. I don't know what happened to the committee, its report, or its recommendations.

1409.Anoush Sree Kumar-Australia
The IIT name is a highly regarded and respected one not only in India but all over the world, and to see that name diluted would be terrible. The exclusivity of IIT and desire for places is one of the driving forces of IIT in my opinion, and to lose that would be to lose some of the lustre that IIT now commands

1419.sravani reddy-india
iits r unique..please dont polute them.

1430.Vijit Mishra-India
I agree with the petition for preserving the brand name of IIT

431.Shadab Khan-India
I am only concerned with the IIT brand name getting affected. India has only one worldclass brand in the field of Education and that too is going to be being destroyed. Besides, can anyone really tell me the reason why these colleges are being renamed IITs? I feel this is nothing but a cosmetic change being done by Govt just to appease its partners; and differes in no way from another futile and useless (and probably maniacal) activity of renaming cities.

1433.Shinjan Tiwary-India
Please ! Mr. Prime Minister, it's very important that we maintain and improve the quality of technical education but not on the cost of what we strived to achieve in 50 years

1460.Anish Khadiya-India
Instead of arbitrarily bestowing colleges with the IIT tag, its better that they are funded to come upto IIT status. simply promoting colleges to IIT wont make them IITs but wud rather dilute the brand value of existing IITs

1462.Ramesh Polisetty-USA
Lets not ruin the reputation of IIT. Lets build the next generation of IITs, since we have already done it once.

1468.V.SRINIVAS-India
Well I think the name of the IIT should be preserved. But I would also suggest that the Centre government should not expend any more on the IITs. Because you all are saying that the IITs have strong alumini. Also the IITs should be funded by industries rather than government. In this way we can know the true potential of the university. What the centre govt should do is provide some initial good infrastructure. In this way quality rather than autonomy will the main goal of any university. This will also remain even in the community which lives in IIT.

1469.Mohit Jhawar-India
I sincerely believe that by following the policy of appeasement, politicians are not only diluting the academic standards of country but also the overall life quality. Just packaging any soap with 'Lux' wrapper wont make them Lux.

1197.Mukesh Meena -India
Its good to promote higher education in India so that more and more students can get opportunity for higher studies...but y to name them IIT..name them nything...provide funds & facilities...and let them build their own name...may be 1 day they will get more name then iit...but y just create bulk....like govt did in state engg colleges

1200.Debashis Kar-India
All that make IITs the nation's pride will be obliterated once you make every other college an IIT And once this decision is taken it cannot be revoked. God help the future of this country

1204.Abhishek-India
i strongly agree with this petition. there is no point in making many institutes by same brand name just because that brand has great value in the world. if our ministers really want to create larger number of prolific engineers they should give them some other name with all supports they can to let them fight and feel the exhilaration of winning the world.

1215.Ratikant ghadai-India
I am from IITKGP. Yes, I believe declaring too many institutes as IITs will dilute the brand.

1217.nikhil prabhakar
there is a difference between an iitian and other colleges people and this is only because of deserving people of iit ...

Very good effort, i am in...

1223.kiran karnati-India
What you have said is really high funda It should not be diluting brand names instead best educations and knowledge centres should be globalised

It could be iit's taking a step ahead in creating quality engineers and scientists across the country, as you have said interlinking should be really fine, slowly every one needs to think how to increase quality of education across the country, leadership could be given to iits, thing is healthier competion comes with healthier relationships,it should definetely not cut throat competions to build brand names, target should be quality education

1224.atul harkut-india
its unfortunate on part of those who had worked hard to get into IITs. it took 50 yrs for 7 IITs..hw can u have more than 7 in 5 yrs...its unfortunate

1231.Gurpreet Singh-India
Think carefully before taking any such step. Its the matter of nations honor

1232.Harsh Pensi-India
I sincerely think that formation of more IITs will result in dilution of the reputation as well as degradation of the intellectual capital coming out of the IITs on the whole. Instead the idea of HITs giving competition to IITs may prove to be more prolific.

1234.Ravi Kiran Bompelly-India
Yes, IIT brand should be preserverd

1237.samir kumar-india
we should not make more iit

1242.Shankar Ghosh-USA
Please Preserve the quality of Education that is identified by the IIT brand name.

iit rocks

1248.Krishna S.Kumar-USA
IITM B.Tech(Mech) 1982 Please give other institutions autonomy and money and set the targets for them to surpass IITs. That could be the only way to measure the challange the other institiutes give to the IITs

1252.abhinav jha-india
I fully support this petition Please dont kill the name of iit

1254.Manoj Sharma-Netherlands
Took a great vision, hardwork and many fruitful decisions to build a brand name, doesn't take more then a wrong decision to kill one. Making more IITians does not help. Making them better engineers will. If want to prevent brain drain, make great institutions for higher education. After all Harvard is not known for its undergraduate education. Get a vision.

1256.v.s.s.srinivas-INDIA
a very good proposition is made. this will enhance the standards of education in india ,preserve the brand name of iit and provide healthy competetion to iits

1263.Kumar Hemant-Germany-IIT-G 2005
Plz, don't dilute the brand IIT. In a country of 100 crores can't even we make more brand rather cheating with merely more IITs name. Indeed even IITs are going to be no more brand if more IITs are coming up like this. Let us make a whole new brand like National Univ of Sci & Tech & Med, but no more IITs. But renaming any institution doesn't make it that brand but indeed it will dilute the brand equity.
Renaming a donkey to horse won't serve the purpose.

1275.Sumit Kumar-India
Keep the brand name intact, if you can improve their level to IIT status, do it with
their name without putting IIT tag

1278.hemanth kumar-INDIA
I request the committee to look into the matter seriously. We urge for the respect of IITs in the world

1281.himanshu shekhar tulip-india
lets make a delegation of the big shot alumnus and meet the president , prime minster and the mhrd

1286.Shreekrishna-USA
Please do not spoil the name by making more IITS. can you think that the IIT standard is depleting and getting reduced. No faculty is coming these days labs are getting deterioated. In USA all the universities are trying to make themselves better and in India they r making just opposite. Please dont do this it will really spoil the brand name.

1287.Shadi Katyal-USA
We should not dilute the well established and respected all over Globe our present IIT as established by foresight of Prime Minister Nehru. It will be foolish to putall other institutes into this group. The credibility of such renowned institutes will be destroyed. One can call them Institutes of Engineering and Managmenent but not IIT. Why are we afarid of new name? This new name will also give them an impetus to compete them with IIT thus creating opportunities to flourish both groups.

1288.Sudha Narasimhachar-India
I agree. The bigger the size, the more difficult it is to strictly ensure uniform standards. Instead healthy competition is the best option

1299.Dr P Srinivasa-India
Keep IITs as IITs. Get another name for another Idea.
