No More IITs Petition - Comments 4000 to 4500

4016. Vinay Kumar India
Great Move on the part of all IITians to save the brand name earned at the cost of exceptional intellect, unmatched hardwork and farsighted vision on the part of both the students and faculty members of the five IITs over the part five decades. The GOI can't afford to dilute the value of the brand just for their political gimmicks. The suggestion in the petition is one of the most optimised solution and should be thought sincerely by the GOI.

4018. Tonmoy Shankar Mukherjee India
Save our Alma Mater from degradation of Value

4019. Neeraj Pahuja India
Establishing a brand name takes years of hard work. Lets not dillute it. Let the other colleges come on their on rather than taking unfair advantage of someone else name

4037. Charu Noheria India I am a student from RVCE yet I think IITs are way aheaed of all colleges. let them be what they are do not play around

4051. Md Hassan Iqbal India
Setting up one HIT in each state is good idea

4053. Shaurabh BHarti India
Its important to save IIT brand name, which has brought so much of IT into India

4155. Ismail Sait India
I agree, let us not be responsible for diluting one of mother India's BEST efforts. When something works well, do not disturb ! Instead, based on this experience, work on creating fresh, better models

4160. Jyoti Prasad Chakraborty India
I want quota system in higher education to be abolished permanently

4161. Devika Garg India
We are strictly against any sort of such arbitrary step to be taken by the govt which will only mar the education quality at the seats of excellence.

4166. Lava India
As the country developes the reservations should go down, reservations should be restricted to primary and secondary level of education only. By rising reservations do not pull down the reputation and standards of world famous institutions.

4168. Satya V. Gupta USA
With the increased tax revenue being generated as a result of the booming Indian economy, the Government should concentrate on creating NEW engineering and management colleges thereby producing many times more engineers and managers than trying to increase quotas in EXISTING colleges and choking the supply of excellent engineers and managers that the IITs' and IIMs' produce today.

4172. Krishna Chaitanya India
Let us give importance to merit rather than to reservation If you give IIT JEE and then study in IIT then you will understand why IITians say that reservation should not be in IIT System Only potential candidates sustain in IIT System if you want backward classes to get into IIT make them potential first

4176. Govinda Gupta India
Let IIT produce only the best.....no compromise It will spoil IIT' s standard and value of IIT in the eyes on industrielaists Cases of suicide and frustration will also increase with increasing no of reservations

4177. nikhil rasiwasia india
call me whenever needed, if the cause is IIT I shall be there.

4180. Gopal Tejwani USA
IIT's have shown that merit is the only way to succeed and build up the brand name. Do not kill it!

4182. Akhilesh Singh India
IIT is truely Temple of India, Its brand of modern india. Do not play with it. Thank you.

4194. Latha Chandradeep India
As a nation we should replicate the success of IITs across the country; not try and leech on it. It will be the case of the hen that laid golden eggs. We should be careful not to kill it.

4199. Abhishek Garg India
Please save India by avoiding the implementation of "reservations". That would only encourage poorer "feel satisfied by being poor", as it eases his brain muscles.

4200. Narayanan.K India
Not every sardarji can be manmohan singh or montek singh. So let IITs beITs and rest be rest IIT's contributio to India's progress in the last 50 years is undisputed. Why dilute it? We just can't live on the brand name of IIT for ever. Someother brand is also required to add synergy

4208. Sunil USA
Please do not dilute the IIT brand which is proud for all Indians We are proud to be IITians and would request to preserve the PRIDE(s) of INDIA IIT is a legend and phenomena and IITians produly say "We are from India, the land of Taj Mahal & IITs", kindly consider building a new brand which we all Indians can be proud of. Jai Hind, Jai IITs

4213. Shankar Kari India
Only Merit, Only Competition for IIT, No Reservation Quotas please

4230. Yugandhar India
IIT's are know for merti and not for reservations.Pls Dont spoil the Brand name.

4238. Aarthi Tagore USA
Please let IIT's IIM's maintain its standards as exceptional educational institutions and admission must solely be on merit

4239. M.LAKSHMINARAYANA india
If a person not having talent to go to IIT,why should we provide reservation to him

4243. Mamata S.M, India
Please stop providing Reservations. It is now 58 years since we got independence and now it is time to get rid of all the reservations, these reservations are hindrance for the development of our country.Let hard working, intelligent students get the best.

4244. Pushkar Lanke, India
Please dont let quality of education in india go down by reservations

4245. Srikanth VKV, India
People - Try to get some more effective solutions to tackle the problem

4250. Srinivas Racha Konda ,India
IITs are a brand. They brought glory to India. Do not destroy

4252. Jagdish Kalyan, USA
By just putting a new logo and a sign on anything does not change the quality of that entity. Please, do not just add more colleges with the same name. Instead, work on creating a baseline standard and let them compete with IITs. Let them find out if they can beat them. Like anything else, let there be a fair competition and let the market forces dictate the outcome. Clothing a sheep in a tiger's skin does not make it a tiger!!!

4259- Narayanan.K, India
Why create more IITs to dilute them with reservation and other narrow minded policies!
Quality should be the criteria and not Quantity.

4268. Mandip Singh, India
TOTALLY AGREE.NO MORE IITS

4270. A Gupta, USA
Giving IIT status to EXISTING colleges creates a huge problem of fraudulent representation, in addition to severely diluting standards. For example, even though Roorkee was accorded IIT status in 2001, even prior graduates from Roorkee university now claim to be IIT graduates (and there are many of them, since Roorkee has been around a long time). In fact, their alumni association actually released an ad in TOI saying that they were "the oldest IIT in India"!! So don't do it, AT ALL - don't destroy the one global brand we have, by including other existing colleges under the IIT name. If more IITs are needed, then create new ones, with the requisite infrastructure and standards.

4274. Niranjan Bhat, India
I fully endorse the plea to preserve the IIT Brand. I would like to continue to proclaim that I am proud to be an IITian.

4278. Srinivas Rachakonda, India
I am against any form of Reservations. Let everyone have the pride to earn their place. Improve Primary & Secondary education

4279. Vivek Kumar Agarwal, India
Prestigious institures like IITs who have earned fame world wide in many years should be kept away from the dirty politics.

4282. N.A Gandhi, India
I vehemently support the petition

4285. Bhagavathi Venkateswarlu Dasigi, Kuwait
Let's not waste energies in spoiling some thing acclaimed to be great!

4286.Satyajit Roy, IIT Kanpur , USA
Let us not dilute the IIT world-brand

4318.Shuddhashil Dey, Australia
Please do not dilute the IIT Brand

4322.Vikram Murthy, India
Preserve the good quality of a brand that has been built over years with special emphasis on quality of teaching staff and facilities . Brand has retained value due to autonomy in selection of students ands governance

4331, Mahesh Choudhury, USA
I fully agree with the petition. We should preserve the brand and create competitive institutes
The name IIT has its own unique signature across the global community
Other day I met someone at MIT and introduced as from IIT. The treatment I received was beyond my expectation. Let us not dilute the quality

4339. Yateendra, India
No reservation in education sector

4342,K.Pavan Kumar, India
I sincerely agree to the view point of the petetioners that the names could be changed to HITs

4344,vikas vaishnav, India
please think for healthy future not for politics. avoid hastly decisions

4349.Chandra K. Jain, USA
Exceelent petition. This is done quite well. It is very true; every effort must be put in to stop this action which will damage the hard earned, unique and un parallel quality and reputation of the 5 original IIT's in the last 45-50 years. Thanks a lot for doing this. Chandrakumar Jain

4350. Manoj K Rawat, Canada
Renaming more Schools as IIT is like more MITs or Harvard. GOI and all stake holders should invest more in existing IITs to be the best in world. Create second brand name as a follow up

4351. Shabbir Dattu, United Arab Emirates
Please refrain from destroying the brand value of IITs. No more IITs ever

4352, Amit Narayan Gupta, India
Why gov is putting its leg in IIT, first they introduced reservation now this

4360.MD Menon, India
Powers-that-be must realise that by re-naming senior scientists as Dr CNR Rao#1,2,3 etc, does not make them intellectually equal or achievers! Respect them for what they are and encourage each one to shine & exceed achievements of renowned scientists

Let each established Institution at "Roorkey" "Jadavpur" "Gorakhpur" "Suratkal" "Jabalpur" etc have its own identity ..pl dont insult them by calling them second grade and changing their name to mask their failures usually caused by politicians/politically motivated psuedo-educationists & bureaucrats

Provide resources to such institutions and appoint visionary educationists as their heads tasked to transform them to worldclass, instead of appointing politically convenient pliable incompetent ones.as reward for their personal loyalties to political bigwigs

4364. Ravindra Mathur, India
Roorkee was as well regarded as the IITs. It should not have been renamed IIT. Guahati could have been called by some other name

4372.Sridhar Anand, USA
I am not opposed to building world class educational instituations, but the ones that are built should speak for themselves rather than IIT brand name being attached to them. Sridhar (BTech, IIT Kanpur, 2000 batch

4373.Rajesh , USA B Tech 2000
This step will hamper the exclusiveness of brand IIT. The other colleges should be encouraged to compete with the IITs by providing sufficient funding and resources rather than just bestowing them with the tag.

4376. Pankaj Trivedi, USA
There is one thing in India which works well and recognized world over. Why do you want to ruin it ? Please think about country than your own political interests for at least this cause

4380.Dr. R. Ray Gehani, India, Japan, USA
India has gone through the long Dark Ages of Invasions and Imperialism which destroyed the institutions for building human talent. IITs, with the help of world partners established a world-class merit-based oasis in the ocean of nepotism based corruption

Get inspired and create more comparable, and even better institutions. Don't just leach onto IITians' blood and sweat equity.

Get real and stop faking mediocrity of certain institutions by hiding them under glorious mislables

4382. Gaurav Kathuria, India
Please help preserve the existing 'IIT brand'; do not get it diluted

4389. Kiral Polu, India
We may be able to replicate all the features of IITs in the new IITs but not the quality of the students, which is enough to disturb the name and fame that the IIT brand holds

4390. Srikant, USA
Quality is always relative term. Let it be like that

4392.Sameer Kohli, India
Can you change your child's name from ABC to Neil Armstrong and expect him/her to be crowned as the first man on moon?

4395. Gaurav Vaish, India
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Why not spend less money on ourselves (politicians included) and create brand-new high-quality college and compete with IIT!

4396. Dr.V.N.Sharma, India
The Govt should think of something new. By giving the name the parents could not make HRD Minister Arjun, the Hero Arjun of Mahabharat. Nor he could become a lion. How does this changing the names to a Brand name helps should be explained by him and the Prime Minister

4397.Ram.India
Dont go beyond IITRoorkee let it be the last IIT. First Try to upgrade the existing IITs research output by giving lucrative package to Faculty at par with Top rated foreign Universities. Dont try to further dilute the Brand IIT

4403. Anil Tappetla, India
I sign the petition because this naive administrative act can appear to qualify just the surface to a decision (to rename) in seemingly identifying the credibility of the institutes at the national and international levels to be of the same, which thereby also hurts sentiments not just of the signees of this petition

No More IITs Petition - Comments 3500 to 4000

3507. Rahul Sinha India
Let there be a competition on equal grounds for all engineering institutions in india , but please dont tamper the brand name "IIT".

3509. Anil Bisht India
Do'nt indulge politics ....

3521. SatyanarayanaReddy Vemireddy India
Strongly support the Plea

3522. hemant goyal india IIT brand is what has put India on the international scenario and it will only get diluted with creation of more IITs as exceptional things are always less in number or rare.

3526. Avijit Kumar Singh ( IIT KGP) India
I believe that this dilution of the brand name might prove harmful for the nation in the long run.

3533. Prasanta Kumar Bose India
IIT brand has taken over 50 years to be built. If we try to push in more institutes /colleges into its fold , the coverage will become superficial since these institutions proposed to be brought under IIT fold are not new and each has its own heritage , culture , vision and priorities.

This may unnecessarily dilute the essence of the IIT brand involving whatever unique culture or practices it has been built with. Also , we must remember that evrything is not bad in these institutions and many of these have their own areas of excellence and pride .

If we forcibly try to bring them under IIT brand name then , maybe the practices will merge only upto the admission test activities leaving the rest of the culture quite different.

Rather, why do we not identify areas of excellence in each running institution and encourage them to enhance it under another fold, like National Institutes or Premier Institutes and make special resources available for them.

3536. prateek mishra india IIT aspirant suggestions made in the plea are highly logical and commendable.

3538. Basab Ghosh, IIT KGP, 1975 UAE
There may be a need for creating stronger Engineering curricula following the example of IITs, but let IITs be IITs, do not dilute the exclusiveness by putting the IIT stamp on any and every college

3541. Ramdas Menon. India. The high standards of IITs should be maintained and should not be diluted by sacrificing quality for quantity.

3546. satyendra india
make sure you have the resources to bring the IIT at par with the other IITs in around 3 years and then start a new IIT.

3553. Ajay Mishra India
IIT r brand name , dont spoil it by just naming some colleges as IIT, it takes time and blood to create such name.

3563. Anshumaan Prasad India
I fully agree with the views presented in the petition. The need of the hour is to upgrade the current IIT's to match inter national norms and this is not helped in anyway by dividing the funds to a large number of institutions.

3567. Saurabh Gupta iitkgp,
India will this work... I doubt !!

3570. Thejaswi India
PLzzzzzzzz preserve the IIT Brand....

3574. vineet prakash (IIT KGP) INDIA
IITs serve the nation more than any other institute in the country ,through research , providing quality technical base and many more ...please do not indulge any politics in it. we can have more NITs, exchange programs to increase quality of technical studies in the country. just increasing the no. of IITs by renaming some Intitutes will come up with diluting the nation most prestigeous Institutes . Plz do not play with the brand names ..

3582. Aniruddha Gore India
though i cannt make it to IITs, but its true that we shld make evry effort to save its brand name & quality

3585. vaibhav agrwal india
Perhaps we can have IITs few more but not the current way... They must be capable...

3588. SAGAR SUTHRAM INDIA
I sincerely hope that this petition is taken seriously and the Brand IIT not diluted, the image which has taken years to build.

3594. Ambarish De USA
When the ordinary becomes extraordinary, the extraordinary becomes ordinary. Brands like IIT should be preserved, it is a brand accepted worldwide for its excellence and continued superiority. Compromising on the quality this brand guarantees will dilute the compelling conviction that this brand now instills

3597. Sukhada Fadnavis India I studied in India till twelth after which I came to caltech for my undergraduate studies. It makes me really proud of the IITs when lots of students and professors here comment on their excellent education. As far as engineering is concerned, an IIT education is very highly regarded. I have friends at IIT and from our discussions it is apparent that they receive as good an education as I receive here. From my experience of schools and local colleges in India, I can definitely say that the IITs are an order of magniture better than the rest of the institutes in India and it would be a big shame to lower the standards of IIT. We have something to be proud of, lets not dilute it in order to get equality everywhere. It is one thing to improve the standards of other institutes and another to just give a brand name to poor products. Let us recognise the difference and accept it.

3604. Biswas Gautam Australia
Dear politicians, you have no idea how exclusive brands form. And, so keep your idle minds off the IIT brand. DO NOT damage the country's standing abroad, a large part of which is owed to the IITs. Stay away

3608. Sohil Garg India
Give these emerging institutions the name of NIT or something else, spare the IITs. They cannot match the infrastructure, administration, faculty and Management that an institution born as an IIT would have...

3613. Kunal India Present National Institues of Technology can be provided the face lift not by christening some of them as them as IITs but with providing them better funding to aid quality research and can serve the purpose of providing quality education and creating a brand of its own in times to come. This would also provide competition to the IITs and thus help in achieving the objectives better as this would create an environment to challenge the monopoly of status enjoyed by the IITians and the IITs themselves.

3617. Gautam Sengupta INDIA lets not dilute the best made in india brand

3629. Krishan Lal India 'IIT' the brand title of original 5 great technical Institutes of the country must be copy-righted

3633. Vipin C Gulati UAE
I appreciate the concern of the government to upgrade some of the existing engineering colleges. Why ride on the existing brand and play with it?? The government, if serious in its effort should start a second brand. This will also encourage healthy competition between existing IITs and the new brand.

3641. adesh yadav india plzzzzzz dont mix politics with education .

3643. Probir Ray, '95 IIT KGP USA Fully agree with the petition. Let another brand be created which can be a competetor of THE IIT brand. This would strengthen both the brands. Please do not dilute the significance of IIT in rest of the World.

3644. Amitava Biswas India
I am sure Dr. Manmohan Singh will appriciate this laudable move to retain the identity of the IITs.

3651. Binit Bhatia India
I fully agree with the points in this plea and i think the brand name should indeed be preserved with emergence of new brands which provide healthy compettition to existing iits

3658. Manjul Apratim India
This dilution of infrastructure as well as standards to serve a non-existent purpose has GOT to stop. Change is the essence of the IIT system, but not change for the worse

3686. ABHINEET GAURAV INDIA i think there is no need to make new IITs as there has been an increase in intake for all courses at all IITs

3689. Sitaram Panse INDIA Instead of opening new IITs you should improve the existing ones.

3696. Madhur Kashyap India From IITB DD Micro 2004 batch.
Definitely, this will dilute the brand and I strongly feel that it should not be done. It will be an injustice for all those who put hard efforts to prepare for JEE and spend there times at IITs (original). I also support the idea that good funding should be provided for all technical institutes and let them grow with time.

3698. Vivek Sharma Switzerland
I urge the HRD ministry not to hammer nails in the IIT's coffin. Already, massive student intake due to shortfalls in govt. funding have sparked fears that the quality may be lost due to an excess of quantity. It would be better to spend this money on supporting existing institutes, IITs or otherwise, without going through politicial gimmicks of naming and renaming.

3701. Kumar Setu India
An institute can't be good just because of it's name being IIT.We need to have same level of education ,students, environment and resources to ensure that we are adding to the brand value rather than diluting it. We all support the need of more quality institutions like IIT's , but we can't support the flawed idea of renaming institutes. Let's add to the quality of education and not to the quantity of IIT's.

3716. Prashant Trivedi India I fully agree with the petition. I agree with the creation of better institutes but it can not be attained by naming institutions as IITs

3717. Shahnawaz Ali India
Please do not dilute the IIT brand. Changing names would not help anybody!

3720. Amit Anand India
I strongly agree with all the points raised in the petition... There is no shortcut to success...

3725. Pradeep Vinayak Sant Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
I strongly agree with the viws expressed in the petition.

3731. Prakhar Jain India
It is definetly not right to create more IIT's A brand equity like iit would be spoilt this way It is better to create another set of institutes like NIT's which may create their own image

3739. Shantanu S Date India First extend JEE merit list for admission to these colleges , remove state quotas , build infrastructure , upgrade present abysmal faculty & then only consider to call them IIT

3742. Mukund V. Karwe USA
I strongly endorse this petition. Please don't damage the IIT brand.

3750. Nagesh Kuppuraju USA
This was a tough decision to vote for the petition. May I also suggest that down the line, if HIT's create as much mojo as IIT's they can be merged with the IIT's on a case by case basis.

3756. Vikram Yekula India BTech IITM 2001
IIT's are 3rd Tech Univ's in the world and as we go on adding colleges with just IIT brand, then 0's will be accumulating at the right side of 3.

3761. SELVAKUMAR Australia
Totally in agreement with the petition. To add, GOI does not know the achieved value of the IITs as a priceless comodity that needs to be protected at all cost. The Honourable Minister being a political figure whose life span depends on the next election should not be accorded the unique distiction of giving prestigious titles to unequal status instituitions. It is indeed a disgrace to do so especially at this time. GOI needs to strongly preserve the identity and quality of the existing original five IITs.

3764. P Sangeeth Kumar India
I totally agree with this plea and strongly urge our HRD to reconsider this decision

3766. Sandeep K Srivastava India
I agree with the cause, and I feel that IITians have preserved a tradition please don't jeopardize it.

3770. Suchir Bhatnagar India
Please don't change the other institutes to IIT It takes a lot of hardwork to reach where they are today and u are helping no one's cause through a move like this.

3782. Abhishek Vatsa India IIT brand has been built by the outstanding performance of its alumni in across the globe...its is a hallmark of quality and dedication...it cannot be allowed to be diluted...

3787. Supratik Ray India
This is blasphemous.

3789. Kulkarni Vidyadhar USA
I would suggest National Institute of Technolgy as an aletrnate name.

3797. Saurabh Gupta India
It is really appreciable that HRM Ministry has realized the level of quality of our institutions other than few top rank colleges, but at the same time they should not devalue the already established brand value to encourage others, as building a brand value takes long but hampering takes no time. Perhaps HRM Ministry should see the long term effect of their action. If HRM Ministry want to increase the quality than they should encourage other institutions to participate in the mutual dialogues between the members employed at both the ends( IIT & the institutions under quality enhancements). In simple: Look at the care & considerations have been given to the institutions like Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, Oxford, cambridge etc. by the management of these institutions. Our IIT's are one of its kind - Please do preserve it.

3818. Devendra Kumar Baghel India
i strongly support the above petition

3824. RAINY CHAWLA INDIA
PLEASE,don't make IIT'S a hackneyed INSTITUTION by diluting it with other not so worthy colleges. LET IT MAINTAINS IT'S OWN STANDARD AND QUALITY OF EDUCATION AS IT DID FROM YEARS.

3828. Vaibhav Jain India
Dont play around with an established brand name. If naming works, then why so much fund? similarly, if funding works, then why dwell upon the name?

3834. Arvind Sanger USA Its a shame that every government that comes in in India these days has to tinker with whats worked so well. If it aint broke dont try to fix it.

3840. Divyaman Srivastava India
Its like naming of all the buidlings with a dome as "Taj Mahal"

3841. Kirtan Singh Ningwal India
Please do not populate IIT's, instead of that try to create competitive environment

3849. Farid Ahmed India
Please Preserve IIT Brand , If you make existing colleges as IITs then nothing difference between an IITian and Others , Please Preserve it as IIT

3853. Shashikumar Mantrawadi India
Save IIT Brand. Build competition with NIT Brand. IITB Alumnus.

3861. Milind Ganesh Kurve India
Creating another Institute is a better way for multiplying

3867. Basant Singh India
petition supporting the preservation of brand name IIT is the right step to to maintain its privacy and excellency. At this time 7 IITs has enough capacity and i dont think that its necessary to make new IITs by imposing this name to other colleges which necessarily does'nt fulfil the criteria to be an IIT.

GOI should believe in the quality not in quantity by making new IITs.They should take one step ahead to improve what is already present by giving right amplitude to compete with other esteemed Universities like MIT ,Oxford...

And its really logical and rational idea to give the name HITS to those institutes which is forced to be IIT and by providing privilege like IITs and even better facilty, faculty members, and fostering research..But dont dilute the name of IITs by which it becomes a trivial name..

3873. aniket India
save IIT's , if the proposal goes on, it will take down the " IIT's " with it, and then there ll b nothing left but a bunch of ordinary bldgs dont politicize the matter just for personal gains; if it continues it wont b long b4 there ll b an IIT in every city & every corner in the country

3880. Aditi Sharma India/USA
This is not doing anyone any good. Just by changing the name of an institution to IIT does not mean that it will start producing IIT calibre professionals. There should be a ground-up effort if the intent is to create more talented individuals. Random conversion of colleges to IITs will do noting more than hurting the well established and globally respected IIT brand.

3881. Vivek Kwatra India/USA
There should be an attempt to bring the university upto the same level as IIT in terms of infrastructure, faculty, facilities, and students before making it an IIT, if at all. I think it would be better to focus on making IITs world class research institutions instead of making more IITs.

3882.deepak farmania India
this is a serious issue.....in the longer run we are runing carrers of thousands

3884. sunil kumar India
The above mentioned things have been suggested by the true mentors of Indian growth and development, so i think their initiatives in this direction have been taken up after considering serious aspects and all consequences. Meanwhile, there are already a lot problems regarding IIT management and infrastructure, adding more institutions on this name won't serve the purpose, infact the quality education will be further deteriorated. This is not a prediction, but a scientific fact. So, do have a look at this.

3889. Rakesh India
yes this has to done !! we have to make people understand the whole concept of brand

3897. Wg.Cdr.S.K. Jain(Retd.) M.Tech. IIT B 1966 India
It is time Govt.aided institutes be supported well by good faculty. Creating more IITs without quality output will only damage the brand IIT.

3898. Pushkar Purohit India
Please stop messing with IITs. Just leave us alone. We are much better without your intervention.

3899. amitesh mishra india
It would be better if government focuses on quality rather than quantity. Why is it necessary to give other colleges the brand name IIT. Why cant they work to make their name a brand name.

3900. amit rathore india
The government should rather try to create a competitive environment. Not only it will motivate other colleges to work harder, but also motivate iitians to preserve their value.

3901. rajat biswas india
I still dont consider IITs to be world class institutes... For that matter, how many quality scientists have been created by iits... how many nobels have been awarded to IITs... IITs have yet to make a mark globally and in such circumstances, if the government is trying to further dilute the quality... there must be some serios flaws in their policies.

3910. PUSHKARAJ RAMCHANDRA SHERKAR india
when you increase the quantity, quality suffers.

3911. Vishwas Arora, IIT Bombay India
In a way to expand the IIT culture by opening more IITs, the GOI is diluting its spirit and repute. HITs is a gud option

3917. Abhijit Ray India
Having 'deemed' IITs is an unnecessary step that will simply dilute the brand image. Instead let us give other institutes facilities at par with IITs so that they stand up to the world on their own merit - not on the shoulders of a well-known brand - IIT.

3918. R P Rammohan 1975-IITB-M TECH India
Engineering colleges all across India must be ranked immediately and those in the top 5 for the consecutive 10 years could be upgraded to IIT as an incentive. Utterly corrupt bodies like AICTE must not be involved in the ranking process. Except the top 5\% of the higher educational institutes quality standards in the remaining 95\% are as bad as anywhere in the world. It is a pity even the top institutes have failed to produce even a single Nobel since independence. Drastic reforms are urgently called for to improve the quality standards.

3925. VARUN SINGHAL INDIA
New IIT's should come up enhancing the bench strength not loosening the held grip of present standards of IIT's

3928. Pankaj Gupta USA
Today IITians are known world wide for their excellent education. It is wonderful that GOI is trying to create more good quality educational institutes. But would it not be wonderful if they rise up with their own brandname, they develop their own identity. It would be a challenge for them to compete with IITs. This would generate a healthy competition between them and IITs and thereby further improving the educational standards. Calling them IITs to begin with would be like giving them a free brand name and no motivation towards living up the high expectations.

3931. Alathur Ramachandra USA
I would be happy if these HITs churn out better products than the current IITs. It paves a way for healthy competition between these institutes.

3934. Santosh Gupta USA
Just renaming other colleges will not make any change to these colleges. Everything else will remain the same with IIT brandname losing its value. Govt should concentrate on bringing these to world-class standards, rather than ranme.

3939. Deepak Raghavan USA
Thanks to the authors of this petition. I strongly support it.

3940. Girish Desham - MTech 1996 India
I agree, the newly named institutes should be called something elseother than IIT

3942. Sachidanand Rai India
Even if thinking about creating one more IIT is a great sin in its own. Please restore and enhance the values of IIT rather than diluting it.

3943. Anil Kumar S.R. India
I fully agree that creating new IIT's will make the brand IIT to loose it shine.

3947. Hemant J Sondhi India
Such a move should be debated at global level before taking decision If State's support exist the HIT project may do better just as NSE volumes far exceeds those at BSE. Let IIT be left as it is. 20 More IITs may be set up afresh rather than merging existing institutes

3952. Shobhit Chugh USA
I strongly support this petition. People all over the world recognize the IITs for the quality of students that come out of it. Let's not lower the bar and dilute this brand.

3957. Ajit Deobhakta USA
Naming a hut the "Taj Mahal" does not a monument make. Those REC's will not become IIT's, but the IIT's will lose the stature and respect they have earned.

3961. Manoj S. Vishnubhotla US
2000 students through JEE is who shld be called IIT-ians

3962. Sanjay Rao USA
I strongly support this petition - anointing other colleges as 'IITs' without putting in the investment and effort to make them so will do nothing but devalue the brand further.

3968. Ahmad Rizvi India IIT Delhi -2000 batch;
I agree unreservedly with this petition and give my wholehearted support Quality and results come with hard work, not by naming tricks

3969. Kunal India
Why do these colleges need the brand name? If they are capable IIT will one day named after them.

3973. Praveen Kumar USA
Please Preserve IIT Brand which in now world class and world recognized

3978. Pranay Pankaj India I strongly endorse the point raised here and would like to join the voices of the concerned members.

3982. Amit Pant India
I also feel strongly against the advise being floated around by the "people in command" to offer the IIT and IIM experience as a favour (for being opened in a different country, or for one specific country to be given preferential treatment and allowing lateral entry into IITs) ,; in in return for some political favor , and diluting the name.

3985. Vipul Mistry India
IITs are of national importance. This step will make them loose their dignity among people.

No More IITs Petition - Comments 3200 to 3500

3209.Arvind Varadhan-USA
I completely endorse the view to preserve the IIT brand name

3217.Abhijit Mandal -U K
Creating a new brand which can compete with the IITs is better than extending the old brand - it is also a sign of courage and confidence

3218.Kalyan - United States
Very good move. Completely support the idea.

3219.sankararao -India
Save IITs; we should not allow the ministers to dilute IITs

3220.Vinkish Garg - India- IITK 2005
The brand of IIT should be preserved at any cost.

3224.Ram Kumar Sharma - USA
I think this plea is legitmate. We should never forget that IITs make INDIA proud and by including more IITs will not only belittle the fame of IITs but also question 50 long years of strong foundation put by IITians all around the globe.

3226.Ajit Nerurkar -USA
I agree with the petition - do NOT compromise the reputation of the IITs
If you want more engineers, create more RECs

3227.Sunil kumar -India
Please preserve the heritage

3231.Ankit Ashok -India
Its really important

3232.Anand Hariharan-India-B.Tech 1991-1995, M.S 1995-1999.
Arjun Singh - Go find a CONSTRUCTIVE way to improve India's education. Renaming colleges will neither impress Sonia Gandhi nor make you a Prime minister.

3233.Ajay-Canada
I Strongly agree but IIT Roorkee should be converted back to University of Roorke. There are guys on this petition from IIT R graduated in 2004 etc. who didn't even take JEE. They don't have any right to say anything in this issue. If University of Roorkee can be converted to IITR then other deserving institutes should be converted to IIT as well, especially when they are better than IITR

3235.Om P. Popli-USA
I fully support and endorse sentiments expressed by several thousands IITians. There is absolutely no doubt that it dilutes the brand name for which so many of us have worked very very hard. It may also impact the alumni generous contributions to several of initial five IIT's. I hope and pray that wisdom prevails with our politicians especially Hon' Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who is an economist and understands the value of Brand Name. IIT KGP 1960

3238.anchit desai-india
NITs have already been eshtablished.so they can be upgraded to what has been referred toHITs in the petition

3239.Vighnesh Rege -India
I am strongly for the petition and feel that the IIT brand name should not be diluted by turning every other Engg college into an IIT

3241.JOE JOSHUA KOCHITTY -INDIA
ppl who got into the IIT have worked hard not only to get in but to uphold the image and brand of IIT.diluting this image will not only affect the IITs but also have a direct impact on the educatonal image of India

3247.Mohan Cavale -United States
This move will certainly dilute the IIT brand which is currently on par with Harvard MIT and Stanford in the US. Diluting it means making it useless as an identifier for top talent.

3251.Shashank Tilak-India
The Way to bring better equity is not to cut short a big line but to draw new lines longer it is better to have more flowers bloom than wither existing ones - in name of equality

3254.Jaiwardhan Gupta-India-B.Tech IIT M 05
Govt. seriously looks like hell bent on simply destroying one of the few internationally recognized brands that india has

3258.Pankaj Mittal-India
Naming NITs as IIT will not improve any thing but it will certainly spoil the image of IITs.

3259.Amitava Sen -Australia
This is a preposterous idea Name others as Bharat Institute of Tech

3260.Shreyabha - India
I strongly agree ....we nay increase the seats but gifting them with a well known brand sounds absurd

3262.S. Hariharan - USA
Strongly against the re-branding

3263.KUMAR MANISH -INDIA- IIT-R 1997
Out of the 7 proposed deemed IITs, only IT-BHU deserves it. Upgrading the likes of BEC, Jakir Hussain College would be a major dilution of IIT brand.

3265.Subrata Karmakar - Canada
From abroad we realise the glamour of being an IITian. Wish the flags remain waving the same way without any turbulence.

3266.AVIJIT SATOSKAR -INDIA
PLEASE DONT SPOIL ONE OF THE BEST KNOWN INDIAN BRANDS

3267.Prabhat Kumar - Canada
I like this petition

3272.Sutapa Das - Singapore
Naming other 7 institutes as IIT is not only diluting the IIT brand name but it is equally humiliating for those institutes to loss their identities. Let them strive for excellence and who knows tomorrow they may make their own brands through sheer performance. I request people from those institutes should also sign the petition. M.Tech (2004), IIT Madras

3273.Naveen Agrawal -Singapore
IIT took decades to creat this image, No stupid small institutes can't just buy this image just be taking the name. I strongly oppose this. Tell those smaller, unproductive institutes that do your work and higher recruit and admit good students and create your own image.

3274.Jai Singh -USA
Please do not touch the structure of IIT. It has a reputation and class.

3278. Nimesh Priyodit -India
To the govt of India- Please Improve the conditions of NITs before making any further progress in Number of IITs. It's no good!

3281. Dr. Rajeev M. Chemburkar - India
Already a marginal damage is done by expanding IITs from original five to six (BHU), and then to seven (Rourkela). There are many constructive ways in which the honourable minister can help India, rather than engage himself in this self-defeating endevour.

3295.Sadananda Pande - M.Tech 1974 IITB -USA
IITs have and maintained excellent reputation in USA and around the world for many decades. Please keep the original shine of IITs shining for ever and do not add anymore IITs

3303.Neeraj Goyal - India
please save the IITs by not making new IITs, why the leaders of India even don't understand this small point??

3309.Susobhan Ghosh - USA
We have 7 IITs now, it started with one at KGP. With the population growth, India can afford another 5 IITs easily, and still can train another 3000 students with higher standard. Roorkee, BHU, and BE College was three premier engineering school that can be easily upgraded. To begin with Nehru proposed to upgrade B E College to IIT, but Dr. B.C. Roy managed to get a new institution in KGP.

3310.arindam mandal - india
please preserve the brand name created by iit alumni and faculty. it is not a good idea to make seven below standard colleges to iits. it is harmful for the nation, iits and the students of other 7 colleges as well.

3311.Priyanka Jain (Dual Degree - 2004 Batch)-India
Preserve the IIT brand created over a period of 50 years. Dont let it get diluted

3314.A.K.SRAVAT - Thailand - IIT-Roorkee-1984
Please do not dilute the brand equity of IIT. If you want to make more than start completely new.

3318.Satyam Shivam Sundaram - India - B Tech + M Tech - IIT M
Its easy to spolit a brand than to creat another one

3320.Ganesh Maddali -U.S.A.
Diluting the IIT Brand with too many new universities harms the reputation. Keep Politics out of this great institution.

3322.dharmendra kumar - india
please stop govt to make new iit because this will dilute the brand

3332.Kaustubh Bhadbhade-India
In order to upgrade others do not bring down some.

3334.Dr A.G.Ashok-India and USA
Keep up the work fellow IITians and let the country grow

3335.Thatipamula Karthik Kashyap -INDIA
I totally agree with the plea. There is no doubt that India needs more technical institutions but they should not be called as IIT. Diluting the present brand name is not a good idea.

3342.Ajaykumar A. Bhatt - India M.Tech- IITB [1981]
IITs should start a scheme of adopting regional colleges in consultation with the universities with whom they are affiliated, for improving their faculty that may go a long way in enhancing the technical education in India

3349.Tanmoy Chatterjee - India - B.E.S.U,Shibpur( formerly B.E.College) which is the second oldest and one of the best Technical University in India should be granted IIT status. It's high time to do so.

3352.Sumedh Ambokar-India
there is no further need to comment.strongly support the petition.

3359.parakram majumdar -India
An institute's reputation is a result of enduring excellence, not a name change if the IITs made it from scratch, why can't the HITs ? The whole world is watching India keenly, time is right for the HITs to grow.

3363.Vinay Kumar Singh -India
It is the brand name of IIT that matters

3364.Dhammachintak Neel -India
Creating alternative powerful educational brands would only enrich the status of India as an educational powerhouse.

3367.Dvijotham Krishnamurthy - India
I feel that instead of trying to just give other colleges the status of IIT, the government should think about what the problems are in other colleges and try to improve the infrastructure. Once they have reached a certain level, then there is no harm in declaring them IITs. At the same time, the government should also invest more money and time in improving the IITs and making them world class research institutions.

3371.Kumar Gaurav Bijay -India
Agree. Creating multiple IITs can dilute the hard-earned brand-name, something that might jeopardise its own future, as lots of bright students persevere each year to join the IITs for this brand-name in the first place.

3379.Deepak Diwakar -India
I agree and support this petitation taken by Our collegues & seniors.

3391.sanjay meena -india
i agree, this kind of move will dilute IIT's brand value.

3398.Prakhar -India
The Seven IITs must be at the Top. Although, a healthy competition is welcomed.

3401.Anand -India
More IIT's will only serve to dilute the brand value of IIT. It is it's low intake that gives IIT its value.

3410.Ruby Iyer- USA
An IIT is a recognized brand name throughout the world. DO NOT DILUTE IT. It attracts the best of our country. Making a lot more of these will dilute the quality and therefore the credibility

3419. Ravi Venkatesam, IIT Kgp, 1992
India I do not endorse this petition. See http://iamontrac.blogspot.com/ for a different point of view.

3420. Suraj Thulkar India
I suggest the name BIT:Bharatiya Institute of Technology

3431. Shyama Pada Coomar - EE 1976 IIT Kgp Switzerland
In the UK changing the polytechnics to universities was not a great success

3432. Dilip Mishra India
I support the idea to build a new brand and thereby create a healthy competition. GOI has to ensure that the input procedures is not diluted for these national institutes.

3438. Shiladitya Sen INDIA
a problem well stated is a problem half solved No one can hurt us without our consent

3445. Shyamal Basu India You cannot create quality in masses

3451. Indrajeet Thorat (M Tech. IIT Kharagpur) India I totally agree with this petition. To dilute IIT brand would be the worst idea.

3460. Sharmila Mitra Mukhopadhyay USA

3468. Amlan Ganguly India
Please do not dilute the IIT brand The capital of IIT's is in the selection of students Please do not degrade it

3478. Shivendra Singh india
the reasons given in the plea are themselves strong enough to defend the petition.

3487. Dr. Madhusree Kundu India
We should not build sevearl white marble Monument and offer them the brand name "Tajmahal", a tribute to beauty.

No More IITs Petition - Comments 3000-3200

3005.Aman Mohunta-India
PLease do not use IIT Brand Name for political reasons

3006.MOHIT KUMAR BANERJEE-Singapore
It has taken the students and faculty a lot of efforts to build brand IIT as the premier brand from India - lets not dilute its value due to sheer political considerations

3010.avsilesh-india
iit potential gets lowered. iit brand gets diluted

3018.Mandeep Singh Bhatia-Singapore
I totally agree with the fact that this will dilute the quality of engineers graduating from IIT.

3027.P. M. Vedamanikam-USA-B. Tech 1969 - IIT Madras
I fully endorse the petition

3028.suryajith-INDIA
this results in the loss of competition among the students and thereby reduces the charm of the institutes

3033.Srikumar K. S.-India
Rebranding existing institutions as IITs is not going to affect the quality of education at those places. The student and faculty culture built over decades at the original IITs are not what will be carried over to these other schools. The Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) , the Tata Instutite of Fundamental Research (Bombay) and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (MatScience, Chennai) are examples of stellar institutions that did not need to use the IIT brand name and have built their own by purely going for excellence, in the same spirit as the IITs.

There is no need for another brand like "HIT" as suggested in this petition. Let there be 20 institutions in India all known for excellence by their own names for their own reasons. The only way to nurture excellence is by insisting on excellence. Just as naming someone Purushottam isn't going to make him the most noble of men. It only contributes to ignoring the meaning of the name

3035.Unnati Gupta- IIT Kanpur,INDIA
i sincerely agree with the petition

3041.R Manu-India
Let there be no more IITs.Develop many more institutes to IIT or International standards. I do not agree to the suggestion of HITs. Let the institutes retain their identities.

3043.apksinha-IIT, Kgp, India
It takes Decades to build the NAME but only minutes of Negligence to lose. ETERNAL VIGILENCE IS THE PRICE OF LIBERTY.

3046.Arindam Basu-India
While I do agree that excessive amount of Brand Extension (without commensurate monitoring of quality) can resort to dilution of the parent brand; one cannot ignore the demands for significantly increasing the number of seats at the existing IITs.

India need to produce atleast 15000 and not 3000 IIT engineers every year, to make a difference to the world.

3047.Shantanu Kumar-India
I strongly agree with this plea. Preserve the brand "IIT".Don,t destroy it

3059.PSP SARMA, [retd army brigadier]-india
enable competetive new brands, who knows they cd do better, !

3064.Kalyan Panda-India
New IITs ok but try to start new name new institute

3074.MSAMSHIVA-India
Dear Sir,Please don,t let the brand image of IITs dilute, the new institute canbe named as HIT or JIT(Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Technology, which in course of time would become a brand name itself.

3075.Anurag Dwivedi-India-Student,IIT Kharagpur
An IIT should only be built up totally new - Kindly designate the 7 new colleges as NIT's which also is a good brand.2 more IIT's are goin to come up in close vicinity of IIT Kharagpur itself, I can already forsee a downfall of the brand IIT in this region.

3078.Avyay-india
sir these new intitutes should be given an open ground to play and work not something which is already built ..iits got here from ground level so should these new institutes ..then only they can be really called new temples of education

3079.Suresh Adina-India
Entry to IIT should be earned and not disbursed. If the current entry system into IITs is flawed, let the existing institutions come togther and fix it. Let the existing IITs maintain their uniqueness and the level of education they currently have. If each state has an IIT, which is likely to happen in future, their standard will slowly but steadily go down over the years, which would be a real shame. Let IITs not become another public sector undertaking like the many we have in India that have done very little for the nation's improvement overall. Autonomy is what gives them the drive to reach new heights and the courage to try out new ideas. Give us a chance to remain proud as IIT alumni and not become just another one of those IITians.

3080.Bishwadeep Mukherjee-India
Let's not tamper with the reputation of IITs

3086.Abhishek Singh-India
I think this is a serious issue and government should take a bold step toward it.
3089.Asutosh Pathak-United States
Brand identity is crucial to the focus of IITs Quality would be hard to replicate It takes years to build that reputation not only a name

3091.Sundeep Peechu-USA
This is a silly gimmick to expand the IIT brand. Why dont we club all the local mgmt colleges into IIMs as well? Ditto for medical colleges.

3092.Suramya Rajwade-Singapore
Look at ur goals. IIT is not the only way to achieve that, create brand India, and not by destroing brand IIT. Its simple think and understand. Make many other brands related or originated from INDIA. Learn from IIT and GOAL is Achieved.

3097.Biswanath Dutta-India
Support the petition whole heartedly. The GOI move will be a very big mistake and only serve to dilute the image. Just giving the Rolls Royce name to every car will not help. Neither is it practical to think that all can be brought to the same standard or will have the same quality output. In a few years the IIT name will be worth nothing.

3098.sujata singh-india
i am in support of this mission.iit brand should be preserve.and the suggesion given in plea is also appriciable

3099.I. Selvaraj-India
Support the petition. Setting up new Engineering Colleges, under a different brand (with competing philosophies) will benefit the nation.

3102.khimendra singh- I.I.T.MADRAS-india
IIT brands must be preserved.

3104.Anupam Vivek-India
good suggestion, but I am afraid...Indian government is not so patient.

3106.colossom-Canada
This political move will not only dilute but tarnish the only brand image which India hold today. After all world do not want trash coming from every third or fourth poor infrastructure college. I bet India will loose this five decade of hard earned "JEWEL" down the lane.

3109.Kiran Kumar Pippalapalli - B.Tech,IIT KGP, 2002.India
Get rid of the word "Brand" from the petition. I would rather use "Plea to preserve the IIT heritage and build complementary educational institutions to serve India"

3116.Shyamprasad-India
wonderful suggestion

3125.Raj Narayan Marndi-India
Don't dilute the brand of IIT by adding some more non-IITs into this list. The idea of HIT is really good one, and it should be implemented.

3126.Sandeep Bharti,MCA IITR-India
No new IITs please

3128.manish jain-india
please dont do that

3135.Praveendra Singh-CYPRUS
NO to more attachments to IITs, it will dilute the brand IIT which Indians are proud of.Why don't go and create new brands like IIITs, NITs, BITs etc...
There is only one MIT, Harward, Princeton

3137.Prateek-Japan
Changing name of an institute will not improve quality of education. Why not give funding and other support under the existing name? Once these institutes are at par with IITs. they can be renamed.

3138.Fred Rodrigues-Australia
Don't fix something that does not need fixing

3139.Saurabh Agnihotri-UK
I completely agree

3140.Ganesh Kumar K-India
Kindly preserve the world reputed IIT brand.Do not dilute the JEE entrance (toughest) exam.

3142.Hemant Sonawane-India
If GOI sincerely desires to enable more students to take advantage of the IIT curriculum, it must build fresh, new institutes (from scratch), instead of falling back on shortcuts, thru half-hearted measures like renaming existing institutes to IIT. This entire naming-renaming (of airports, streets, and colleges) business is hogwash and a colossal waste of national time & resources.

If GOI is serious about technical education, it must take the initiative to build new institutes, modelled along the lines of existing IITs. There is always an easy path, and a right path. One needs to see if they have the courage to choose the right path.

3144.amit sinha-India
plz do not kill tis golden goose

3148.Shikher Bisaria-USA
Please do not convert RECs to IITs

3149.Anu-USA
I don't know why Government is thinking that giving the brand name of IIT's to other Institutions will help? IITs have come up to this name and fame after struggling a lot. Let the other institutions struggle and acquire their fames in differnt brand names. Giving the brand of IIT to other institutions will not serve the purpose rather it will deteriorate the name and fame of all existing IITS rapidly. Government must think about the exsiting infrastructures sensibly.

3153.Ankit Malhotra-India
they should be renamed but not to IIT's these colleges should be renamed to some other name and grant given. it would be misleading to name them as IIT's

3164.Amit Gautam-India
14 IITs!!! Will go a long way as the perfect example of Brand dilution. The term IITian wont carry any value...one will need to specify whether one is from say IIT Kanpur or some IIT Osmania.

3166.Manikanth Mohan-India
It is essential that the brand value of the IITs are not played around with. The effort should be to raise the existing NITs (or as the petition says convert them to HITs) to better levels than just renaming them, causing irreparable damage to the brand value of the IITs.

3173.soham ganguly-india
do not dilute thebrand name

3175.Amit Jain-India
No more IIT please if you want to keep it premium
else it will beome like any other school on the street

3176.Arun Kumar Giri-USA
Let's create some other brand names to make ourselves prod. Why spoil one we have
created.

3178.Sadanand Deshpande-USA
Please keep the seven IITs as they are

3179.Shireesh Agrawal-India
I request that the decision be made by people who have been a part of IITs. Let this not be a case of short term planning and show of power.

3184.Ashish Kar-USA
No point in diluting the brand name of IIT. It would be better if we could raise the standard of other institute and bring it at par with iit without giving any care to its name :

No More IITs Petition - Comments 2700-3000

2706.Shravan Agrawal,IIT KGP '84-USA
Govt shoud not christien existing institution as IIT.Open new IITs spread accross the nation (not one per state).Increase intake of existing IITs.

2709.Gaurav D. Upneja-India
Stop making quantities, build qualities.....

2712.Lalit Kumar Bansal-India
First make the college to up their standard to the level of IIT.After that only awarding a status should be considered.

2713.Suchismita-India
Please dont dilute the IIT brand, creating more of IITs would lower the standards of teaching and students

2719.T.Sri rama krishna-india
i am iitan so i feel it has to be preserved

2721.Kunal Sharma-India
Please, preserve the IIT brand name, and if possible leave IITs alone and come with other options that do not evoke routine hue and cry year after year

2722.Praveen Jha-USA
These guys are bent on doing whatever they can to destroy the nation. It seems they are under some kind of spell in which they can do nothing good. They are taking deliberate steps to harm India in any way they can making sure the people remain ignorant, uneducated and deprived. The same people bring them to power. Though I do not have much hope that these subtle acts like online petitions can break this vicious circle against such evil, let's not lose heart and keep trying.

2734.nikhil kumar singh-INDIA-IIT MADRAS, m.tech
we have to pay attention on quality not on quantity

2737.Manoj Kumar Rawat-India
The IITs will lose their numero uno position and the respect the IITians command if more IITs are created.

2742.Priyank Sharma-India
Fully support this argument. Name the other colleges differently. Do not get into brand-dilution.

2743.Narendra Prakash Singh-India
Please stop this Rat Race

2747.Praveen Tewari-USA
IIT's are renowned for their uniqueness and accomplishments of the alumni. Let us refrain from diluting the name of IIT's by adding more and more institutes to the fold.

2749.Mohinder L. Nayyar-USA
I belive that the objective of the GOI is to provide sufficient funds for the proposed colleges by branding them IIT. It is wrong to change the name without changing the basic culture of the college. It will lower the prestige of IITs abroad and at home. Do not do it for political purposes, if any. Preserve the status.

2750.Arun kumar sharma-India
Its the brand name which should not be mixed with others.

2753.Udhaya Shankar-India
Please don't undermine the status of one of India's unique prides

2758.C.S.Satish Babu-INDIA
please don't spoil the Brand Name

2760.Arun Khan-INDIA
Need to keep and improve the quality of the IITs comparable to the top level Engineering Universities/Institutions in the US and Europe. This can be achieved only by keeping the standards high. More IITs will simply dilute the quality of the output.

2762.Raghuveer-India
If any more IIT's then I strongly suggest setting up new ones like Guwhati.

2764.Aseem Vaid-USA
dont dilute the IIT Brand and reputation, it is equally harmful for the nation as well as for students. Take the example of premier institutions worldwide and see for yourselves.

2788.Sarang Tatimatla-India
Tell me one thing...why do you think the IIT's are THE IIT's? Is it because of the teaching standards? Is it because of the facilities? Is it because of the students? Just introspect on these questions and you will go with the last one. The other factors do play a part, but it is the students that make an IIT. We must agree that our seniors played a very important role in our development as overall individuals. (c'mon, we were absolute duds when we stepped into the IIT's). Now by converting a little known college (never heard of many of the listed colleges before) into an IIT, the whole IIT tradition is under serious threat. (Roorkee was on par with the IIT's at that time, so the statement "...Roorkee, hence XYZ..." does not hold)

Just imagine...ppl who clear JEE will go into these colleges and find seniors who are absolute imbeciles...I mean most of the newcomers would not be able to relate to them...there is a hell of an intellectual difference among the juniors and the seniors...principle of mental induction holds true...and bam...we've lost a future Leader (either Technological or Managerial).Just a viewpoint...I sincerely feel that the breeding grounds play an important part in the making of an IIT...if at all an IIT is to be made...make it from scratch...or evacuate a certain campus for a few years before making it an IIT or even better....let the IIT's remain as the elites...and nurture talent in the NIT's.

2794.Prashant-India
Establish brand new IITs rather than converting old ones.
Attract best of the faculty from around the work.
Encourage commercial R&D.

the idea of healthy competition is interesting.it should be tried and merged later if need be.

2803.Vikas Shenoy-India

2813.Vishwanath-India
Please... no more IITs... Let the value of IITs be everlasting and outstanding the way it remains in quality

2815.shiva kumar ramini-INDIA
I am strongly agreeing with the petition

2819.SuryaPrakash-India
Let's build another brand (in the academic world)

2823.Sumitava Biswas-India
Being from IIT-R 2004 passout batch, I strongly feel that the pride of India should not be diluted.

For the betterment of society, colleges other than IIT should be funded and managed with greater control. And who knows, we may get one more brand of colleges from them which we can be proud of other than IIT.

2826.Mukesh Kumar-USA
I support this petition. Brands take years to build and should not be allowed to be simply copied.

2827.Atul Srivastava-USA
Instead of opening IITs in each and every "gulli", invest more in current IITs to upgrade their infrastructure and labs etc.

2828.Pawan Tyagi-USA
Before renaming institue pl. put a check on quality of reserach and teaching output for some years then pl. consider them to provide status equivalant to IITs. Let other institute evolve themselves (with proper funding and encouragement) to world class institute. Naming them to IITs may not help in improving their situation in actual.

2831.Siddharth Sanyal-Australia
It is empathized to IITians as well as others that IITs are the provenance of Technology and Management leaders in India. We need leaders today to serve the country and the world. Understanding that there is positive population and economic growth in India, let there be new freshly created IITs instead of being burdened by the responsibility of cleaning the crap of other institutions, which sadly have rotten to a point of irreversibility.

2834.Anurag Jaiswal-USA
It took years for IITs to become IITs and preserving the IIT Brand is not only in interest of alumni of IIT but also in interest of govt. of India to encourage healthy competition and leverage IIT brand abroad to retain and improve IT image. I am sure Chinies politicians must be brain storming to create such a brand value where as we are planning to dilute the same.

2837.Rohit Kumar-India
Making lots of IITs is like killing its own brand value. IIT has a name becoz of the creame-de-layer. Let it be a layer. Not the whole milk. or no body will recognize it then.

2839.Rohit Kumar-India

A concerned citizen clearly against any IIT brand dilution schemes

2871.Tirthajyoti Sarkar-USA-University of Illinois at Chicago
I agree with the potential dissolution of the strength of the brand name. More research oriented education structure in these new centres of excellence would automatically give them the recognition and repute.

2872.Aparoop Chakraborty-India-IIT KGP Batch 2002
There are very many examples of Brand Dilution. Let not the Govt make the grave mistake

2880.Ajit Shenoy,IIT Madras,1979, Electronics-USA
The IITs were built painstakingly over many years and their reputation is based on capturing India's best and brightest via the JEE. Simply renaming an existing (and lesser) institution an "IIT" does a disservice to the efforts of legions of IIT students who toiled mightily to get there and the highly dedicated faculty who taught them.

I would strongly suggest selecting some other name such as "University of XYX", where XYZ is the state name, or "India University, YYZ Campus"

What was wrong with the name "Regional Engineering College" to begin with? These already had a national identity, in that they were all named "REC, XYZ", where XYZ was the city, and they were recognized as the next best alternative college system after the IITs. Keep it that way.

2882.Kamlesh Sinha-USA
I think this is very important. As this will undervalue the Brand image of RECs as well. If there would be so many IITs then RECs wont stand a chance.

2883.Niraj Jha-USA
I sign the petition cause I agree the IIT Brand name will be diluted.. However I feel what the GOI is doing is not wrong. Today Indian competition is nothing but taking its toll on Students. Students are selected based not on Merit but on sheer hard work ut thru years and years of hardwork. I have known of friends who have sent 2-3 years just to be in one of the IITs. They have both failed and succedded.

The failed ones have later succeeded much more than most IITians in life but repent wasting 2-3 years on the same course of +2 level. Those who have succeeded are also similarly repenting on the years lost. With the coming of many IITs more and more people will get a chance to be there at the first place. And the bright students wont have to spend life on a 2 year course for upto 5 years or so..

Well there is one MIT, one Cambridge, one Oxford and similarly there is one IITK, one IITKGP, one IITB, one IITM. Why dont you work for the brand rather expect the brand to work for you. When IITs opened in 1970s, there was just one of it. Had they said we do not want other IIT most of you would not have been signing this petition. It took one visionary to make 5 IITs and another visionary to add 7 to it. Do you have any idea as to how many took the JEEs in 1970s and how many take it now.

So its not only required to open more IITs its just on the students. Ask XLRI what it takes to stand out of the crowd. Opening more IITs will also help many deserving poor students who cannot afford costly tutions and courses but are naturally bright, yet cant afford private intitutes.

2884.Kalpesh V. Upadhye-USA-IIT Bombay, Class of 2002

2893.Vineet Rajput-US
First the teacher pool needs to be strengthened. If there is already a shortage of qualified professors at existing IITs, why dilute the pool further

2895.Arun Jain-India
I completly agrees with the Petition to Preserve the IIT Brand and would like to add that when govt. is not able to support the existing IITs, their should not rise the question of more IITs. First GoI have to look into the conditions of exisiting IITs and explore their full potential, which in my opinion has been explored upto 25\% till date, as IITs can produce more Scientist and Engineers of world class as compared to what we have today from our country.

2898.Prachi Singhal-India
I sincerely agree with this petition to save IITs from deterioration of its image. But most people think its not completely right and we should work for the brand rather expect the brand to work for you. Then why follow the brand name?

If its only a question for giving chance to equally bright children then why go for name "IIT"? Its rightly said in the petition that choose a new name for these institutes. Who knows in future they might develop as a higher brand than IIT. And similarly, the reverse can also happen. So better don't use the brand IIT and put its reputation at stake

2904.ramjeet meena-india
this is not write that it........... the image of iits will b spoiled

2908. Radhakrishnan J-India
Whats in a name ? Well the name has a brand value that is a result of how the IITs take students and how they function. And replicating that in other institutions would most certainly take time. So in the short term, there would definitely be a brand dilution. Instead, let there be another brand. Renaming doesn't change GoI's objectives or affect how it plans to achieve 'em. Besides, having one more brand would fuel a healthy competition.

2912.amit kumar singh-india
IITs representes india let them do so for a long period them increasing there numbers will result in the dilution of there reputation.

2919.Sourabh-India
Making so many IITs doesn't serve the purpose either way. If we want to provide quality engineering education to more indians, we can build good institutions with some other name, which operate along the lines of IIT. It is not necessary that all good engineering colleges in India shuld be called IITs

Once the world gets to know that there are 14 IITs in the country, educating 5000 or more engineers, they will n longer respect the IIT name.

2924.Krishna Kumar Rao Mocherla-USA
Please do not let political gimmickry endanger the fine reputation of IITs and dilute the standards that have been maintained so far. The Indian diaspora worldwide has established a great reputation only because of the excellence of the current IITs. This is in danger of being lost with the lowering of standards.

2925.S S Saravanan-M Sc IITM, 2004-India
I fully support the views expressed in the petition. Just changing the name board of a college is not going to help in any useful way. This move will do justice neither to the colleges concerned nor to the IITs. I humbly request the PM and his cabinet to drop the idea.

2983.Raghav Mittal-India-IIT KGP - Class of 2004.
The Indian politicians are anathemic to anything exemplary. For them the promotion of mediocracy is a safe bet to remain in power. The killing of the IIT Brand is just the beginning. Let's see what all happens in this country if the enlightened one's don't come together to take on the reigns of the nation. Where are the democratic principles applied in this decision ? I wonder that our "great" political leaders don't even understand the basics of marketing. Just by giving a name will empower an institution, looks funny.

Let the entire IIT Fraternity start a non-cooperation movement with the Government of India to strongly protest against this foolish move. Let's send our IIT degrees back to the Hon'ble HRD Minister with our letter of protest. Let all IIT Foundations hold all the financial support to the IITs. Let the entire IIT fraternity rise up in unison and make a plea to the Hon'ble Supreme Court requesting to safeguard the fundamental duty of "To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement. ". The dilution of the IIT brand would demean the excellence of these institutions. Let all IIT groups make it very clear and explicit that they won't let the other members into their fold.

2504.Deepak Pandey-USA
I am sure this campaign will be a success. I wish that our great leader give a little thinking with out thinking about politics

2507.Joseph-India
I accept the concept in the petition. So pls don't rename the colleges into IIT. Rather raise the standard of the other colleges into the standard of IIT's and make a way for competition.

2510.Subbu Mahadevan-USA
No university should be 'converted' overnight to an IIT. I think a process that clearly outlines minimum standards in several categories should be set and each potential candidate evaluated against it.

2511.havewala-India
How can you create 7 new IITs overnight?

2514.Gyan Prakash-INDIA
I support the fair motive behind the plea.

2521.Venkateswara Rao M-INDIA

2535.Gaurav Sharma-India

2546.Arun K. Tangirala-India
I strongly agree with the views. Please do fund the universities but do not give them the brand name of IIT

2559.S.Koti-INDIA
Every Technical person wants to be an IIT'n but it may possible to him or may not. Incresing the no. of IIT's is not the better way .It may become dilute. The first and farmost idea of the starting the IIT's is to serve the Nation and to extract students talent from different parts of the country.

2562.Ankur Arora-india
IIT is a global brand.. Dont let the shine go of its brand image

2566.Amol Gharat-India
Giving the colleges the name of IIT wont improve them.

2570.K Ugendar-India
good suggession but providing fund to both HIT and IIT may not possible for GOI If it is possible for the all IIT alumni to provide funding by one way or other way to their respective IITs then it is easy for the GOI to create healthy competition between IITs and HITs

2583.Raghu-USA
Better spend some money on improving the infrastucture of of the counntry, then doing the renaming process. In few years new govt will come, and will want to name IIT as MIT... Name does not matter , quality doe

2589.Rosemary Fernandes-USA
Dear PM, What has made an impact on the world is the quality of the IIT students. It has taken over 50 years for IIT's to get the recognition they get now. Do not take it away from them by lowering their standard in the eyes of the world. By renaming existing universities that are not in the same cadre you run the risk of losing all that IITians have established. You will lose the value of IIT and it will be very difficult to find the true IITian amoungst others .. just as it would be hard to find a true diamond if all white stones were called diamonds. Create another system of universities and let them all prove and find their worth. You will surely lose the value of IIT brand in the eyes of the world if other universities are given the same name without years of acid tests. It will look like a quick cheap bandage in the eyes of the world. Everyone stands to lose.

2590.Diwakar-USA
It is common understanding that some of the colleges that are being considered for renaming to IITs had very non-transparent and non-standard admission procedures in the past, that were often abused.
Alumni of the old college should ideally continue to receive copies of degree certificates, transcripts, etc., under the name of the old college, and not HIT.

2592.Pratyush Tiwari-India
Please maintain the standard of IITs, by not making them accessible to everyone, as other REC, and Engineering institues do exists for everyone let the stidents compete in a fair manner and only the best get selected to the Niche institutes.

2595.Vivek Katiyar-USA
The competition with IIT's idea is excellent

2597.Padmanava Debnath-India
It is imperative to uphold, respect & maintain the sanctity of the existing IITs. The whole concept of brilliance would get diluted if every other college is tagged as an IIT. The concept of HITs and competition between the two breeds is a great idea.

2601.Avay Kumar-India
The bad effect will be seen after 8 years. They have already down graded IITs with lower standard in JEE.

2602.Peri-India
It is time the govt builds an alternate to the IITs. That way we would have more choice and competition

2603.Prasanta Behera-India-IIT Kharagpur,Mechanical Engg, 1998
Please do not dilute the Brand IIT, it has taken India a long time and lot of hard work to build this brand.

2605.Debasish Chatterjee-India
I support this petition

2609.Chandra Manglani-India
We must plan for more engineering institutes of world-class standard, but they cannot be brought up to the mark by just tagging them as an IIT. This would need a sustained period of commitment, both academic and financial.
Declaring 10 more IITs might generate short-term political mileage, but this would run the huge risk of eroding the value established by the IIT brand-name.

2611.Bipulendu Haldar(B.TECH,1998,IIT-KGP)
India The Brand IIT should not be diluted.

2616.Parth Shah-India

2625.Sudhir Kumar Pidugu-India-B.Tech (IIT-KGP) 1998

2647.Pradeep Srivastava-Canada
No comversions to IITs of existing institutes Can make 2-3 new IITs DO not make a large number and DILUTE quality

2649.Lavneet Janagal-India
if more students are selected for such instt. as IITs the level of students will surely come down and more people will start accumulating in non-medical side only and no one to do other vital jobs!

This is certainly not a sensible idea. Quality i thought was more important than Quantity.

2670.Himanshu Kapoor-USA
I completely agree with the view mentioned here. Let us not dilute the hard work of 50 years.

2676.Sandeep Thakran-USA
I strongly stand behind NOT diluting the IIT brand Name GOI should create institute of technology by every state just like in United States and every institute will earn its pride through GOI support GOI should work on building new association by linking regional colleges to foriegn institute especially in this globalization era where India will be at the forefront

2679.Venkatakrishnan Panrutti-India
I strongly disagree with such a movement. IIT is an institution I revere.

No More IITs Petition - Comments 2300-2500

2300.Yogesh Amle-India
Save the IITs and its brand.I dont understand the Govt rationale behind branding the RECs as IITs. If funding and support is the motive, it can be done by creating a new brand or not hampering the IIT brand.

2302.Manikandan-India
why our government is not interested in new brand names, so that those brands can again bring laurels to our country, like what IITs are doing now.

2303. Ananth R India, Chennai I feel that the IITs have built up a brand image that is exceptional and world-class quite unlike any other. The quality of education is also excellent and setting up of IITs will only reduce not only the brand image but also the qualtiy of education. Hence it is a futile thought

2310.P.G.KRISHNAMURTHI-INDIA
I fully agree with the above views. But, when, Delhi Engg.college was converted into IIT, itself, we should have started our action. Anyway, better late than never.I had earlier written against converting Cochin University into an IIT.

2313.Mahesh Tripathi-India
Let's not ride on somebody else's success but put in efforts to make brands and take to that level

2315.Surbhi Jain-INDIA
I agree. The idea of creating a new brand of institutes in healthy competition with the IITs is a more suitable and fruitful idea rather than giving them the status of Deemed IITs.

2319.Ram Kumar-India
I think we need more colleges in India of international repute than just IITs . Let the other institutions command respect globally and not dilute the IIT brand.

2333.Nalinikanth Gollagunta-USA-BTech-IITM 1998

2355.Mayukh Banik-India
Because of crisis & hardness of the entry pass, IIT is at the crest. Please don't bring it down for the sake of this reknowned institute.

2358.T.R. Ranganath-USA
The institutions and their students need to earn their reputation. The idea of just handing somebody the reputation is wrong and counter-productive. The university of California system has added campuses, not by renaming existing institutions but by building them from the ground up. I believe there are many good reasons (some of which have been talked about in the petition) why this course of action has been pursued. Please build qualtity institutions from the foundation by all means. This course of action will certainly provide good competition to the existing IITs and as a consequence strenghten both groups in the process. This will take time, but time and effort that is well spent. When the new institutes develop their own reputations based on their accomplishments, I am sure they inturn would not like to see their hard earned reputations given away to somebody else for nothing.

In short, please don't screw-up a good thing that you have! Reputations can be ruined easily, while it takes a long time to build - 50 years in the case of the IITs!

2361.Guthi Raja Sekhar-India
strongly agree with my alumni views

2378.Karthik T J-India
We should first improve the standards of IITs which are facing problems like shortage of Professors, infrastructure. I feel it is not a good idea to start more IITs at this juncture which will only worsen the current situation.

2400.ARINDAM BARAL-INDIA

2413.Point@IITM-INDIA
i m with u guys but seriously i dont have slightest hope. people who dont care about their country aren't worth sending some plea. i dunno what they( our respected politicians) want but even a tiny country like bangladesh has guts to kill our soldiers and send ITS PM here on a visit. man i m fed up with their so called ahinsatmak (non violence they call it but its more like their neglecting and irresponsible attitude of a weakling). anyway i just emptied my heart. sorry i may be biased but these r my views.

2415.Ajay Singh Niranjan-Delhi,India
Hon.Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh & Hon.HRD Minister Mr.Arjun Singh, Dear Sir,

Myth:
conversion of some institute to IITs for national interest?
Reality: I think that national interest mean RECs or NIT or HIT (Hindustan Institute of technology: It is recommended for future brand) stabilize their own brand on global level. Like MIT or Stanford University. And it will give better space of healthy competition. So HRD ministry should provide more funds, better infrastructure facility, and more intellectual resource to NIT.National interest means every national level institute empowered through various levels like integration with IITs, Foreign University, collaborate with industries extra.

National interest means, they ( HRD ministry ) worked – How real research work stimulate from institute, how transparent and open system will develop, how institute will transform their mechanical system to Organic system ( mean very flexible or adaptive with CHANGE), How we give student 4 dimensions development Because It is the right time for Institute to produce ENTREPRENEURS / ENGINEER simultaneously.

National Interest means allocate more funds on Education Sector. It means open new IITs not conversion of Some institute to IITs. It means deregulation and decontrol of higher education. If national Interest means think and work beyond political interest or personal interest. It is better for national level Institute work in open environment and any political agenda can not interfere at any rate.

Education Centre is a temple of knowledge in which there are no space of political agenda because we can not compromise with future of coming generation. I think that Transfer of body (sound Infrastructure or better facility & good funding) is OK, Transfer of Minds ( Intellectual resouces , Knowledge, ) is OK, Transfer of Heart ( Emotional supports or empowering )is OK, BUT Transfer of IIT Brand ( the soul or the core value ) is not OK.

Just try to think at visionary platform. Any conversion can damage feeling of healthy competition. Our main focus should be , HOW WE CAN MAKE REC OR NIT OR HIT as a global brand like IIT Brand. But Definately It should need consistent hard works. SO begin to WORK.

2416.Dipendra Pratap Singh-india
there is increase in no. of IITs but wat about AIIMS that have only 50 no. intake............is india there r sufficient amount of good doctor not engineer??

Sir, IIT brand name has world wide recognition , since the number is countable. Opening more IITs won't enhance, quality of the technical eductaion by over night.. Rather do invest on infrastructure of existing top ranking Institutes for healthy competion with IITs. However, do not rename the institutes to IIT, in order to reatin the brand name.

Please do not destroy IIT brand by increasing the number of IITs

What a nonsensical approach. Create aniother brand if you want. Doesn't Rolls Royce sell Bentleys as well? What happened to the proposal of NIT

2455.aniket-India
dont spoil the brand created by IIT which took more than 50yrs to create

2459.Ajoy Kapat-India
it is better idea not increase IIT but to established new institution of another name

In my opinion, what is needed today is two urgent actions:

1.Set goals to all existing technical institutions to emulate IIT standards

2.IITs today lack certain standards compared to leading US universities.Find ways and means to resolve this.

The current move to name seven colleges as IITs would certainly dilute the brand image of IITs. This brand image is not just a pride for the alumni of these institutes but a pride to the entirenation. Hope the authorities would appreciate the point.

As a professor in the US, I keep in close touch with the IITs, and am already seeing a dilution in standards and quality. Please revisit this issue and stop this before it is too late and the meaning of the IIT name is lost.
