I fully agree wud the cause of this petition. It is reaaly disgracefull to start a trend of renaming any street college an IIT. Once started it would be an socio-political cancer like any other move like reservation, minority rights, non-uniform civil code etc

Another landmark on the way...by the iitians.

i totally agree, theres a lot of difference between these institutes and the iits and it will be not be possible to turn them into iits just by changing their names
414.Mohit Gupta-India
I completely agree with the Petition Authors
418.Anirban Das-India
Please take this seriously to prevent damage to the IIT image
424.Vaneet Aggarwal-USA
I agree to the cause. With lot of IITians passing each year, there will be lots of problems in getting into anything after the degree. So, don't dilute the brandname.

CONSIDER THE PETITION AND THINK OVER IT.
433.Harishankar Rajan- UK
I agree with the petition and also that a different brand name will give the new colleges a new identity
436.Anchal Saxena-India
Let NIT's remain NIT's and IIT's remain IIT's
437.Umesh Saha-India
I do agree that instead of naming an institute as IIT, uplifting its infrastructure would serve the cause and renaming it as IIT would only hurt the brand name 'IIT'

Goodfellas - politicians, use your brains @ least sometimes.

456.Avyaya-india
There is an urgent need to save the IIT brand & for this this is a small but significant step. Together we can represent our stand
458.prateek sharma-india
I also think so,we should not harm IIT brand,it took so many years to come to present situation &status.

wats the use of having a uno numero college when its level would be decreased and made at par with the other ones
481.Sumit Kumar Choudhary-India
The above article is very well prepared and the honourable ministers should think over that. It's my personal thinking that we should think of making education level better rather than to just give a popular name to any institute.
487.Ram Manohar Rai-india
ya its sure that what make us ahead of others is unique culture that we have developed so upgrading a college to iit wont help at all even if they have to increase the no of iits they should start from begining rather than putting the tag of iit on some other college ya and ofcourse there is only 1 oxford , 1 harward so our uniqueness should be maintained

BRAND IIT IS INVALUABLE.
CREATE NEW COMPETING BRANDS.
SET-UP HITS IN INDIA AND ABROAD AND GO FOR EXCELLENCE RETAIN IIT NAME WITH ORIGINAL FIVE.
ALL OTHERS SHOULD BE DESIGNATED AS HITS.

I was worried even when Roorkee was upgraded to IIT, let alone numerous IITs joining the list. No where else on this planet have we seen such renaming of institutions in order to "acquire existing brand status". I would confidently say, IITs are there because of the IITans who enter them through that gruelling JEE and the consequent living/learning/competing together for 4-5 years.
Agreed that as years roll by IITs take in the same no. of students, but that has been the hallmark of these institutes and the "brand name" was not diluted till date. Such a dilution by naming other institutes as IITs is only going to distance the the achievers from the 5 deemed IITs to distinguish themselves from others. There is already talks of 5 deemed IITs, and IIT Guwahati and Roorkee.
Why create such confusion and mess in the industrial/academic circles ?
Roorkee was a unique university and had its own reputation, why name it IIT and create confusion and hurt their alumni, students when their counterparts from "5 deemed IITs" seem to distinguish themselves from them ?
Of course, the latter deserve to distinguish themselves from others. If Roorkee was named an IIT in the year 2003 or 2004 then how can an alumnus of IIT Kanpur of the batch 1969 understand that ?
At the same time a big industrialist/achiever and alumnus of Roorkee of the 60s having helped to herald the brand of "Roorkee" is now subject to change his credentials.
Why is MIT of today same as the MIT of the last century ? And why the "Roorkee" of the last century suddenly IIT Roorkee now ? The Indian Govt should understand the fact that, every alumnus of an institution deserves to be identified with his alma-mater no matter whether it be IIT or REC or Osmania University. Why would you let REC's die ?
Dont you remember the story of the hen laying "golden eggs" ? The Indian Govt, is on the verge of dying the very brand that it helped create through its visionary leaders soon after the independence.
If the current achievers from the 5 deemed IITs choose to distance the mselves from the IIT system, or rather start identifying themselves changing their associations to only "5 deemed IITs", which is quite easy for them, then Indian Govt shall have been subject to mockery. Why create that unnecessary confusion when India is short of such International "brand names" ?
